Question '70 & '72 grill differences? Need info.

Are the headlight buckets the same from a '70 to a '72?

How about the inner part of the grill. Can the center of the '70 grill be cut out to install a '72 style inner grill? Or would it be missing any mounting tabs?

Thanks!

Headlight buckets the same, Radiator support same, As far as cutting center section you would lose the mounting tabs. Also there is a difference in the hood latch and the front bracket directly below it where the center of the 72' grill bolts to it for support. If you only change the outer and inner grill, and not the bracket it will make it difficult to open the hood due to the position of the hood release.

On the '70, the outer grill has another bolt in the very middle (under where the 'R' would be). That bracket that is perpindicular to your radiator support that this bolt goes into, will need to be cut. I cutoff wheel or torch will be fine, your just cutting that mounting hole off, and making the bracket a straight line.
The headlight buckets are the same between the years.
I'm not all that sure on a 71-72 inner grill mounting to a 69-70 outer. IMO if your outer is in good condition, sell it and go buy a 71-72 outer & inner. The 69-70 outers are worth some $$$ if they have the letters pressed into the center section!
The different year outer grills have the same bolt pattern as for mounting it to the truck. I put a 71-72 style on my '70. MOST of my holes lined up, not all. Maybe I was just un-lucky, or something doesn't line up, I don't know, but my grill is straight and thats what matters the most.
Good luck to ya
