1974 gmc please help
So I'm trying to find my grandfathers pick up truck, and I just have a few questions if their is any one out their who is knowledgably about 1974 gmc I would very much appreciate it if you could answer a few questions please and thank you. So it's a needle in a hey stack trying to find my grandfathers pick up truck that we use to go fishing in and took camping sadly all I have to go off of is the vin # the insurance company gave me, and when I enter the vin into car fax it tells me to enter a valid vin I've double check with the insurance guy and he said it is a 1974 GMC 2500 vin # TCZ244Z504863, but as I said car fax ask's for a valid vin # am I missing a few # or letters? I was also wondering if the 1974 GMC had to be a camper special for a camper to be put on it? or can a camper go onto any 1974 GMC with out having to modify it so the camper fit's? thanks for any help Always & Forever Tink |

Re: 1974 gmc please help
Carfax goes from model year 1981 and newer so that's a problem here...
I do hope you find information here about your truck though

DMV might be able to help if they were willing to.

Re: 1974 gmc please help
Best bet would be too try to find previous owners (who it was sold too) or even ask around in the area(s) you might know the truck was sold in. You won't find any luck with the vin # through carfax that old. How long ago was the truck sold?
I've tried searching for original owners of muscle cars i've bought/sold over the years and know this all too well. Usually what helps high end or rarer cars out is that its because they are just that. There are a lot of sites dedicated too these and certain individuals that keep records of these cars. Unfortunately trucks don't usually carry that status. Unless its some ultra low mile rig thats been passed between collectors or seen on sites like this. I hope you find your truck!! I know what its like too have cars/trucks that have sentimental value and keep them too pass down in the family. Again, ask around.... ask around... ask around and be persistent!

Lets see... 1974, 2016 that is 42 years it is unlikely that one out of a hundred are still on the road, and the Pacific NW has like rust which makes it even more grim. Me thinks the best place to look for Grandpa's truck would be in the wreaking yards.

I know here in OK for $1 you can walk in to any tag office and provide them with a title number or VIN and they'll print you the last registration on file in the U.S.
Sorta scary, but it also shows if there are any active liens on the vehicle, easiest way to make sure a vehicles title is "clear and clean/green and clean" here.

Re: 1974 gmc please help
RandyP - That is kinda odd but good if your looking for previous owner info. I know when i was back in Nebraska years ago, They issued a book to certain businesses ( don't think it was for public use ) that you could look up anyones license plate number and it would give you the name and address of owner. Now thats scary!! It was useful when we seen a couple hot chicks cruising the strip and we would look up and know who they were. lol. Ya, we weren't supposed to have the book! And i'm pretty sure they don't do that anymore.

It's not in NMVTIS. I think that means it is not currently plated anywhere.
Just as a check, I put in my 1978 K10's VIN, and it's in there.
