Bagged c20

Ok fellas I'm looking to bag my 71 c20. I'm looking for a little help on my front end. My question is what kinda ground clearance are y'all seeing with factory crossmember at ride height. And if so are you having any problems bottoming out while driving.... I plan on running 2.5 drop spindles with 2600 bags. I guess what I'm asking is should I pancake my crossmember. I don't want to bottom out all the time especially at high speeds. I'm looking for a safe reliable ride.

At the height the front end needs to get a good alignment, you won't have any issues bottoming out.

Ok so you could run factory crossmember. Just get the truck aligned at ride height. Well really I guess if you pancaked it the same would apply.

Does anyone have any pictures of a factory crossmember truck bagged at ride height and aired out.

If I do pancake I would run a rack setup I'm thinking about running one either way.

I found some pics in the bagged section .....but no body really shows a truck at ride height I guess what Im after is how Low can I ride with a factory crossmember compared to one pancaked ... I'm wanting to go as low as possible with out bottoming out even at highway speeds ... I know the look I want just tryin to figure out how to get it this is my first bagged project. Sorry for the dumb questions

You can ride as low as you are willing to risk it. The pancaked crossmember will get you about 1.25'' lower.

I know a lot of guys run their trucks on the highway really low but I wouldn't. Imagine hitting a big bump and catching your crossmember at 60mph.

You also want to take into account that if you are riding low with a sectioned crossmember you bumpsteer issues will become more apparent.

Yea I'm not looking for a dangerous truck at all. I would keep it at a safe height on highway just try to get some kinda of idea of the ride height. I think I'm going to start a build thread I've got the truck tore down right now.. I have found some great info buy surfing the bagged section so as of now. I think I'm going to pancake the crossmember, drop spindles from performance online so I can keep it 8 lug, bags(2600), and a rack does anybody have a part number for a rack that would fit a c20? And I think that's about it for the front end .... As for the rear a step notch...also does any body have a measurement for the step notch I'm looking to be as low as the front bud try to keep some what of a working bed ....also what's the best bag place meant I'm thinking about ditching the factory trailing arms and doing something different there I'm still up in the air on the rear at the moment .... And thanks for the help fellas

This my ride aired out. I removed my front inner fenders, installed a step notch in the rear, and I used 1 inch bag spacers for the rear while my bags are mounted on the rear axle.

Here is another. I posted pics from my iPad. If measurements means anything to you, as my trucks sits now, frame is approximately 2 inches above the ground, in the front (lowest point of frame). It sits 1 3/4 inches above the ground, in the rear ( lowest point of frame). 2 things I will add:1- bed floor brace hits the 1 piece drive shaft. It needs to be notched. 2-the stock lower control arms is the lowest point on my vehicle which I think keeps the truck from going any lower. Some say pancake, I say replace the stock crossmember with drop member of some kind. Good luck. As you attempt to go lower( lay frame) open your wallet.

thanks for the info...do you have a pick of your rear setup? And yea i would love to see the truck at ride height....id like to get a drop member but just cant swing one $$

Still on 8 lugs. Porterbuilt Stage 1 front and stage 2 rear. This is about my ride height.
20x9 5.75" backspace 245 50 20 all around.
