Putting the old truck to work

Finished my TBI and 4l80E install on Monday and took her and the Vette on a 1000 mile round trip from Dallas to Arkansas for the Arkansas Mile on Friday. I could not be happier with the way she performed.

Oh, and the Vette did OK too - 180.9mph.

Re: Putting the old truck to work

180 in a mile is pretty darn quick. I'm glad the truck did what it was built to do.

Nice.

How about sharing more details on your TBI/4l80e swaps?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Putting the old truck to work

I'll start a new thread for the TBI/4L80E install. I planned to do it from the beginning but got caught up working and never stopped to take any pictures. It is sightly different from others I have seen here in that I am running a Holley Terminator system, controlling both the EFI and transmission.

What was your fuel mileage with the holley system and overdrive?

Re: Putting the old truck to work

I only checked the mileage once on the return trip, it was getting a little less than 9 MPG. Not great, but it is about the same as I was getting unloaded with the old Quadrajet and TH400, so it has definitely improved.

I still have some research to do, but I do not believe my TCC is locking up the way it is currently configured. Hopefully I can get that sorted out this week and improve the mileage a little. After I figure out the TCC lockup, I plan on playing with the tuning. So far, it has only ran in "self-learning" mode, which seems to be a little conservative (rich) with the fuel.

Self learning mode would def hurt 'true' mpgs. Looks like a super clean truck so looking forward to the details.
