1990s hubcaps for C20

I have been looking for original GMC hubcaps for a long time and havnt had much luck. I noticed people have used 1990s hubcaps and really like the look. i want to try some out but have not found any details on using them anywhere. Do these need any modifications to work or will they fit with no issues? also anybody know off the top there heads which lug nuts i would need? i have a stock 1972 gmc C20 with the dana 60 rear axle. thanks in advance

Re: 1990s hubcaps for C20

Which caps? I'm running later 90s/00s GMC caps on mine but had to space the wheels out with 2 spacers in order to get the center hub to clear the cap. That in turn required longer lug studs.

That's the trouble spot, I think.

order the hybrid lug nuts off ebay and get a set of dually center caps and you're set, i run them on my truck but since i'm using a 14 bolt rear diff the standard caps fit without any problem.

Are you using the 70s steel wheel or the newer steel wheels?

Re: 1990s hubcaps for C20

'91 was the last year hubcap, 76-91 style. It was also the last year for the typical steel wheel people refer to as steelies, which accepted hubcaps. In '88 GM introduced "Styled Steel Wheels" with "Center Caps", which is more a European style...just like rallye wheels. Hubcaps don't work with styled steel wheels. The 88-98 style center caps work with aftermarket wheels. On pre-88s and R/V series 88-91 you can use conversion lug nuts to mount the center caps. In '88 GM went to 14mm studs and the conversion lug nuts are 9/16" in the duplex design, as factory, to hold the center caps on using the same plastic mock lug nuts.

I know it's an '85, but I used the black center caps on d-hole steel wheels on my Jimmy. I used a hole saw to cut out the fronts

I went the opposite direction with my '95 Suburban. I used 7" Ford Accurides with 76-91 hubcaps for a more retro look. I wanted a more trucky look

I'm showing these to give examples of alternatives to hard to find and expense 69-72 hubcaps. If you get creative, there are many possibilities. I don't think the 76-91 style looks so bad on these trucks. Thy are a sharp looking hubcap and plentiful

Re: 1990s hubcaps for C20

Here is a couple pictures of my 71 C20 with Dana 60 rear. I run (widened) 90´s styled steel wheels. It came with the newer style center cap on the rear when I bought it. Later I found a pair more like the ones in the front but both fits the Dana 60 hub. Maybe that deeper style center caps comes from duallys as jerry moss said. These are Chevy but I´m sure there are GMC´s in the same style.

For lug nuts you will need this style:

Re: 1990s hubcaps for C20

One of the classiest wheel deals on this sight right there...in Sweden! It's true, the tall center caps came on dual rear trucks. I like the 88-98 style so much better than the next one. Smooth looks great and very easy to clean. I have a set of styled steel wheels to get widened and both Chevy and GMC sets of center caps in moth balls for a later day

Re: 1990s hubcaps for C20

thanks for all the info guys.

special-k, i really like the look of the suburban. i have a '93 and love it. might have to do a wheel swap there now

68 50th, those are exactly what i want. i love the look.

i checked with the local junk yard and they want 65 for wheel, 35 for cap, and 25 for ing. ouch.. would not have thought that stock '90s wheel are almost as much as aftermarket.I am going to check at a pick-n-pull thats about an hour away sometime. should be a little cheaper.

Ouch is right! Maybe we need to stop calling that place a junk yard and start calling it a parts boutique. Holy Moses! It's been a while, but I bought a ring at the dealer for $20. The sets of caps I have I bought at swap meets for like $40. I bought a 6-lug center cap to try out on a rallye wheel and it was $20-25 at the dealer. I think I paid $60 for my set of Accurides. Ain't capitalism great? $500 a set for truck wheels...dang!

EDIT: I edited out some of your post and forgot to saying I'm glad you like the look on the 'Burb. Go for it. Not such a hard look to come by. I had this set-up on my '92 K3500 first ...with GMC caps, of course. Originally rallye wheel color, same as original. I painted charcoal to go with work truck grille. Plans are to have original wheels widened and run 295/75s in a milder tread for good weather. The 255/85s are supposed to be my winter set.

The trend has always been put newer wheels on older trucks. But, I like older trucks so much I like to go back for a a retro look. Also wanted to take the SUV in a more truck-like direction since that's what it is used for. It's more of a truck than most pickups out there.

These are not in the 1990's but rather 2011, pretty cheap and still look unique.
