Question Replace stock 10 bolt to 72 blazer 12 bolt

bought a 72 blazer rear end and want to put it in my 68 C10.
Want to retain the 5x5 bolt pattern so I don't lose my custom wheels.
Anyone help with 5x5 axles for the Blazer 6 bolt?
Thanks!
Dave

Re: Replace stock 10 bolt to 72 blazer 12 bolt

Your '68 C10 does not have a factory 10 bolt. It will have a 12 bolt... unless, it somehow has an Eaton or a Dana from the factory (10 bolt covers). Or someone swapped in a 10 bolt.

You can use truck 12 bolt conversion axles that will be the correct length to fit the '68 housing, but will have the '71 - '72 5x5 lug pattern.

I used a pair made by Moser in a 1969 C10 housing.

Re: Replace stock 10 bolt to 72 blazer 12 bolt

Just checked out the Moser site, did a search on 72 blazer and could not find an axle conversion to 5 lug.

Thanks for trying

Re: Replace stock 10 bolt to 72 blazer 12 bolt

They don't list the Blazer conversion because it's not done usually because there were so many fewer Blazers made than trucks it's not worth having an entry on their website. But the 71-72 axle housing is same width as the 70 truck (wider 6 lug). The Blazer axle is not a good swap for your truck because it is a leaf spring rear with 40.5" spring centers. If you have a leaf spring truck they will be 42.5" spring centers on a 2x4 truck. Or if you have coils obviously it won't bolt in.

And the smart-A comment to the other poster not helping your cause IMO.

Pictures of what you have would help knowing what rear is in the truck now and what you want to do. The truck 10 bolt didn't show up until the late 70's but you mention that you have 5 lug already so the later one could have been swapped in. Except for one ton 4x4 the 73 and up trucks also have 42.5" spring centers but the shock mounts are different.

The only real drawback to the early truck 10 bolt is 28 spline axles versus the later 10 bolts 30 spline axles, but in practice that has little bearing on longevity except maybe in a street/strip environment.

Re: Replace stock 10 bolt to 72 blazer 12 bolt

There was no smart a comment.

I will give them a call today and see what they say.

Spent hours yesterday trying to find a shop that would re-drill the Blazer axles to 5 on 5 to no avail. Did several searches on Bing and Google looking for conversion axles for the Blazer also to no avail.

The new [to me 5 years ago] 454 is 600 horse. When I let it out some I can feel the entire rear end torque up and trying to spin. The existing 10 bolt rear with leaf springs just cant handle the power.

Having a ton of work done to finish the truck. New 4 link suspension with coil over 12 bolt Blazer rear end. Suicide doors. Glass tilt one piece front end. New factory wood bed. Replacing all rust with new steel. New Hot Rod Flatz paint.

Anxious to get on with the new work and parts. Waiting to start until the rear end is ready to go in.

Thanks for all the info

Dave
