Repair manual?

Who makes the best repair manual for my 86 C/3500? Haynes? Chilton?

And where can I buy one? I thought for sure that Chevrolet would have an official one but I can't even find these on Amazon.

Advance Auto is showing the Haynes that covers all Chevy/GMC C & K trucks from 1967 - 1991 for $30. Is this a good buy?

LMC has what they call a "shop manual" on CD-ROM for $30 also. Some body steer my right. thanks

Re: Repair manual?

Get yourself one of these, they are usually on flea bay sometimes as cheap as 10 bucks. Unit repair manual helps too.

Re: Repair manual?

Yes, that is what I'm looking for - definitely!

I did order this on Amazon.com. I think it might be the same thing only just loaded onto a CD-ROM. If this is the same thing, I will be fine with it:

Re: Repair manual?

I have 10 of these I have gotten off eBay over the years for 8-10$ They go into auto trans and everything you can imagine. I know I have one for an 86 that's twice as thick as the 74. I think they are from dealer shops or maybe others.

^^ cool on a CD. I feel like I should be wearing a shirt with stripes when I look at it. Haha

Re: Repair manual?

The Factory manuals... Hands down.

I scanned 1967-1998 GM light truck manuals from my library and made PDF files of them. I scanned many GM training textbooks and the 1973-1993 parts books as well. Look below...

The Carnies are everywhere. Hopefully the PDF files in my post are not the same scans you paid for on CD.

You can usually find reasonable condition paper copies on evilbay for around $20 each. Helm is still selling paper copies of some but used is easier to find.

Re: Repair manual?

I couldn't find a reasonably priced service manual in decent shape for my 82, so I bought one on CD. Can't remember the price, but it works great. And I can even zoom in on things like schematics that were hard to read even in the paper manuals.

****Hatzie -- I'm curious. Have you ever heard from GM about publishing those copyrighted manuals? Also, do you frequently scan the files for viruses?

Re: Repair manual?

The files are hosted on Mediafire. They were virus free when they were uploaded.
I recommend you buy paper copies used or new. Read my post... They're fairly cheap and it covers you for fair use of the PDF files.
