1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
Has anyone purchased an aftermarket door shell lately that the are satisfied with? I hear many of the doors sold don't fit properly. If you have purchased or installed one on a truck lately and are satisfied with the quality and fit can you please let me know the manufacturer and/or where you bought it from. My passenger side door split vertically through the hinge mount and needs to be replaced.
Thanks |

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
Brother, I tell you what.....you're going to run into problems not matter what with body panels. I see OEM doors in pretty decent shape come up on here fairly often.....I really think I'd go that route.
Hot Rod Todd is a good source to check with. He's always going to those swap meets and I could probably build you a crate and ship it to you! It's the shipping of things that kill you....they just have to be in a crate and most shippers won't do that. TTT |

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
-
I have one on the drivers side of my '72 Dually. I don't know where it came from because it was already on the truck when I got it. I have tried everything in the world to try and make that sucker fit with no success. As soon as I get some free time, off it comes and on goes a decent original I have. I'm done with it. I will use it for patch panels. Do yourself a favor and find an original door...... LockDoc

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
I have read that the door tooling has been changed to correct some of the issues, but I have no first hand experience with them. You also have to be aware that venders need to sell there old stock, before the new stuff or they would get stuck with them. I myself bought 3 sets of 72 OEM doors, and picked out the best of them for my build.

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
Apex is the new tooling that you are looking for - I think shipped as Key Parts. As noted, if you don't go through a board supporter (NSaneHotRods, GMCPauls, ClassicHeartbeat, etc.) - you are taking a risk that you may get older tooling.
The users above are board members AND they use these parts to restore/rehab trucks so they know what the best options are. I will say that all parts including OEM won't just bolt on without some tweaking. Do a search for 'Apex doors' on the forum and you can check for recent experiences. |

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
72 doors have a reinforcement screw under the vent glass on the inside.

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
If you ever get down to Ft Myers I have 1 very solid rust free door from a 1970 C/20, still in original paint no dents.

Re: 1972 Aftermarket Door Shells
I bought a couple for my 72 Jimmy. I couldn't even close the doors, they overlapped the body at the latch side, here is why.
The repro door
