Got a brand new Holley 650 dp to replace the Edelbrock 650 AVS I cracked tightening it down. I'm pretty excited, never had a Holley before

Re: Got my me carb!
In my opinion it's a way better performance carb over a edlebrock.

Re: Got my me carb!
I also got an MSD distributor so I can properly limit the initial timing for my cam, I was having a lot of issues because it's a big cam and now I don't have to drive with a locked out distributor

Re: Got my me carb!
Depending on how big your cam is, you may have to drill a couple of small holes in the throttle blades. When you set your idle, check to make sure that the transfer slot in the side of the primary throat is visible. If it isn't you are going to have some tuning issues until you drill the holes. You might not have to do this, some of the newer Holley's come from the factory with a longer transfer slot already.

Nice carb, you are going to like it. It looks like you have 4 corner idle adjustment so it should be easy to set for any cam.

Re: Got my me carb!
What a bummer, I bought the door feedline from our PC and you can see in the picture how far off it is. It's the right part so I'm not sure what is wrong but it looks like I'm not starting it up tonight. What a bummer

Re: Got my me carb!
Cut it in the middle and add a section of fuel line to make it fit. It is easier to get the lines into the carb when you have some flexibility anyway. Some don't like the looks but the air cleaner covers it from sight.

Especially on a carb that has an adjustable secondary and a 4 corner idle. Fix the problem thru fine tuning the timing curve. |

I also agree that you ought not to do any permenent modifications untill you get all the literature you can on these carbs. no matter what the books cost, it will always be cheaper than replacing a carb. also... with 4 corner idle systems. it compensates for those mythological modifications that might or might not other wise be nessessary. read up on it . nothing you cant do with a good supply of parts. David Vizard has written a good book on those carbs. many others you should have in your library. lots of info. Last edited by mike16; 06-21-2016 at 12:57 AM. |

Re: Got my me carb!
Holley makes a good book for tuning, I have always seen them with a red cover.
The modification to the throttle blades was usually done on engines with large cams when the idle screw had to be turned in far enough that the throttle blades moved past the transfer slot. It is at the bottom of the list of things to do to the carb. It is something to be aware of. Like the others said, I would try all the other tuning steps first. |

Re: Got my me carb!
You bought a dual feed line for a 4160 series carb with no metering block in the back so the distance between the 2 inlets is shorter.
You need a dual feed fuel line that fits a 4150 series carb with the rear metering block. Everybody thinks that Holley carbs are so complicated. It's because they try to do too much at once. If it is a new carb that you bought and it came with a DVD in the box. Watch it from beginning to end. There is a ton of good info on it about tuning that carb. It will be like night and day from that Edelpuke. Gary
