Fuel pressure regulator install/setting

So, today I bought a pressure regulator and gauge for my truck.
I have the Edelbrock 1406 carb, a new gm fuel pump, and basically stock system from there. My truck runs good after I replaced the pump and filter, but have that annoying "delayed starting" when it's hot.
About a month ago, there was a thread about the benefits of installing a pressure regulator, at a 3.5 pounds pressure to alleviate the "hot start" issue.
Question for the gurus.
Is there anything, outside of following printed directions, that I need to do to install and calibrate the regulator?

Re: Fuel pressure regulator install/setting

You need the reg mainly for the carb pressure requirement.
The carb likely will still flood when hot even with a reg.
You need a heat plate/spacer to help cure the hot start fuel percolation and overflow problem.

I have the carb spacer on already, but that is mainly to stop/prevent vacuume leaks between the baseplate and the manifold. It's aluminum so I don't know if it hurts or helps the other issue.as far as boil over, I don't know if I have that(???) The pressure issue is my problem . I think
I'll see tomorrow when I install it

How thick is your spacer?

Re: Fuel pressure regulator install/setting

aluminum is not the best choice if you want insulating qualities in your spacer. there are phenolic resin spacers and even wooden ones that work well. where is the heat comming from. the exuaste cross over? block it off at both ends an try a manual choke. chech timing and lean fuel characteristics to ensure they are not causing over heating conditions.

carb fuel purculation is a symptom of the problem. fixing it wont hurt but the real problem is still out there....heat.

Re: Fuel pressure regulator install/setting

Edelbrock carbs are known to have fuel percolation issues. I have a regulator on mine, but I have the aluminum spacer so it still does not want to start right away when hot. I am going to switch to a resin or wood spacer. I have my regulator set at 5 psi.
