Help hooking up manual choke
Hey everybody I got my first Holley carb, it replaced a cracked Edelbrock 650 and I can't even describe to you how much of a difference it made going to the double pumper with mechanical secondaries, what a ride!
It's a Holley 650 double pumper with manual choke, and I really want to use the factory original choke lever and cable that somehow survived an I6 and manual trans swap to a th400 and SBC. The lnob in the dash works great and cable is in good shape, but it's backwards when I put it on the Holley (I'll explain). When you pull the lever OUT to choke it, what that does is the opposite on the carb. I hope that makes sense and somebody can help. Thanks guys Matt |

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
Does anyone know how to hook up the manual choke on a Holley 650 DP with the factory choke knob on our trucks?

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
Call the Holley custom speed shop at 1-866-464-6553 and see if they have a conversion bracket to change push to pull .

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
I absolutely love my 650 dp df manual secondary carb. It's the best carb I've ever used.
It's on my 355 in my car If ya bought in new didn't it come with instructions too hook it up? Here is my choke hook up. I put this on in 01' and it still works great after 28,000 mi. Push in the dash knob all the way. Close the choke flap but use something like a paper clip too hold it open just a tad. Put the cable through and just snug it and test it's function. You will have too tune the fast idle screw. (The little guy under the choke). Oh btw, I can not believe you were still running off the resistor wire....wow! The hei is one of the best up grades for these trucks. All the threads on doing the converstion an you didn't check it till it smoked I bet after your engines self cleans it's self that puppy should really wake up. Ya might wanna check your plugs.

Hey Mr jrainman where are you at in n east pa? I'm kinda central located here in the east and get around pretty good. When hooking up choke cables I like to keep the cable sheathing a lil' long so it acts like a stop. But it takes a lil' more adjusting back and forth too get it perfect.

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
Wait, with it reversed you pull the choke knob to go faster, and push the foot pedal in when it's cold?

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
What's a choke?
I have either removed or wired open every choke in every carbed vehicle I've ever owned. Gary

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
I was reluctant to admit that Grumpy's comment scared me for a minute, but in all honesty I got so frustrated and that "DANGIT!" kind of anger boiled up, and then I cracked up laughing about it lol

WOW.....speaking of embarrassing moments. I made this thread because I thought the choke lever and the choke mechanism on the carb were operating backwards, but after looking at this picture and thinking about my carb, it's actually right just the way it is. CHOKE is when the flap is CLOSED, meaning when you pull the choke lever, it closes that flap. This whole time I thought it was choked when the flap was up......wow. Would you believe that I actually pulled my motor, installed a cam and heads, intake and new lifters and rockers, and I didn't even know which way choke was. I gotta stop posting this stuff before I really research it LOL Thanks guys for the help. Your welcome for the comedy relief Matt |

Re: Help hooking up manual choke
Well now that your getting 12 volts to the distributor and your vacuum leaks are gone and you have a new carb with a CHOKE ? And set correctly And you have new fancy dancy ceramic plug wires and your timing is done it will probably run cooler instead of fighting itself trying to run at mach 1.7 😁 Good for you ! Isn't this fun ? 😢
