79 turbo 350 lockdown cable adjustment
I have searched YouTube with no luck. How do I adjust the kickdown cable. When I open it up the cable will slide forward but will not return. Is that correct?

Interested in this as well. From what I understand you adjust it to where the throttle pulls the cable at WOT...or close to it.
And yes the cable should spring back. I've tried adjusting mine but I can't seem to notice a difference...

Re: 79 turbo 350 lockdown cable adjustment
That's the detent cable.
There's a square sort of clippy thing in the plastic right behind the bracket at the intake manifold. Pull it up so it "unclips" the cable. With the detent cable unclipped, push the throttle to WIDE OPEN. Holding the throttle wide open, push the square clippy thing back in so it locks the cable at that adjustment. Boom. You're done. There will be some slack such that the detent cable does not even move until somewhere close to half throttle. That's normal.

Skinny G is dead on 100%
it can help if you have someone hold the gas pedal wide open so you can use 2 hands on the clip. just make sure the throttle actually is wide open |

Re: 79 turbo 350 lockdown cable adjustment
So I tried to lift that metal tab on the cable and it bent a little. How do I get it up to adjust? Tried to pry with screwdriver. Well that didn't work

Put that screwdriver away!! LOL!!
Two kinds of them. Older style you push the tab up from the bottom. Newer style you push the tab in from the top. Search youtube for vids. Lots there. |

Figured it out. Thanks guys. Now just need to go for a test drive. I have owned this truck for 26 years and never knew how to do that. Pretty embarrassed.
