Windshield Lock Strip
I need to replace both a cracked windshield and one of the rear quarter windows on our Burb. The original chrome lock strips all around are thrashed. I've noticed new weather stripping offered with no lock strip grooves. So my question is...are the lock strips necessary or is this a trim item? And, are there any structural differences in the the lock strip and non lock strip versions? Could I just remove the lock strips?

Re: Windshield Lock Strip
The lock strips are as they say, they lock the weatherstrip in place. So yes, they are necessary.

Re: Windshield Lock Strip
I've used the no trim weatherstrip, and no, it needs no lockstrip. Like you I got tired of the Texas sun killing the appearance of the lockstrip so I bought the no-trim type from Classic Parts and did away with the whole problem.

Re: Windshield Lock Strip
Thanks Shady. I didn't want to pay for trim I don't really want anyway.

Re: Windshield Lock Strip
Sorry to be joining late - one other option would be to replace the locking strip with a black one.
When these trucks were new the Silverado version got the chrome locking strip and the Scottsdale and Custom Deluxe got a black locking strip. That was one of the reasons I always ordered a Scottsdale was so that I wouldn't get the chrome trim around the windshield and back glass. K

Re: Windshield Lock Strip
Thanks Keith. My plan was to use the black strips if the no-lock gaskets weren't any good. Still not sure which way I'll go, black locks or lock-less. The windshield gasket is pretty dry and needs to be replaced for sure, but both of the quarter window gaskets look great.
