Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
I'm getting ready to do a swap to Corvette suspension on my GMC and will be changing wheels at that time. VirgianaSlim on the photoshop board was kind enough to do these for me. Which wheel would YOU pick?

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
I like the last one best but think any wheel you choose(not a torque thrust fan) should be highly polished or chrome to compliment your running boards and bumpers. I like the Z-06 single spoke polished wheel on Corvettes(I have one) but I've seen the same wheel on a tri five and didn't like it so well. Maybe because, to my eye, the big fenders of the older truck want a fair amount of offset in the wheel, which I guess is pretty limited when using that suspension. I'm sure you know about opinions but I lean toward simple. Here's what I used. Made by Weld.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
I think they all look pretty good but...the traditional steels with whitewalls are hard to beat if the whites were a little fatter and the truck sat lower. If not the traditional look I'd go with the Torq Thrust styles, these are timeless and classic. The other two just seem a bit to modern for your truck.
But with all that said, run what you like!!! Who cares what we think. |

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
Definitely NOT the second two. They ruin the whole truck. The TT's and steelies both look good, depends on what vibe you are going for. TT's give it a meaner look, but you're gonna have to polish them.
It looks like VirgianaSlim dialed in about 10 degrees of front negative camber on the last set, lol. Greta job though, wwasn't sure which of the first two pics was real.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
Like the title says this is just for fun so please feel free to voice your opinions!! And if you can photoshop a different choice onto the truck please go ahead, I'd love to see it!
I agree that whatever goes on the truck should be highly polished or chromed to go along with all the other chrome on the truck. The '85 C4 suspension is 61.5 wide in the back and 59.5 in the front so no problem using almost any wheel, some will need spacers though. I will pull the wheels and measure the vette one day soon just to be sure, it's still in one piece atm. I suck at photoshop or I would lower the truck in the first pic to match the rest to make it more comparable. I'm trying things out to see how I like the look, had 14" & 15" Indy slots on my yellow 57 and loved it. What would YOU do with this one if it was YOUR truck?? Opinions welcomed !!

Have you thought about keeping the wide whites and just getting a 5 lug version of your current wheels?
10 second photoshop drop

I like the original wheels but would go with black wall tires.
Not a big fan of white walls. Kim |

Do you mean like this Kim? Sorry I can't lower it in the picture, but I know how to do it in real life!

Disagree with the black vs white wall comment. Those white walls look absolutely gorgeous on your truck. Perfect

5 stud stock style with white walls as per top left. White walls on a red truck just look right.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
I like the standard looking rims, but if you have some big disc brakes you want to show off then a rim that has some openings (like the "pro-touring' option) might be good.

I vote for pro-touring as I like that style and since I'm assuming the vette suspension is to head that way.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
Well, first of all,
1. you are stuck with wheels that will fit the suspension. Are you going with 84-86? or 87-91 suspension? The later suspensions are an inch wider on each side. That will have to be taken into consideration when picking wheels. 2. If you pick the earlier suspension, I would go with a C5 front disc brake (1997-2004), and you have to use 17 inch wheels if you do. Otherwise, you are stuck with a single piston caliper, and 10.5 inch rotors. If you use the later C4 suspension, the parking brake is in the rear caliper, but the earlier parking brake is in the rear drum/disc with a set of baby shoes in the center of the rear rotor. 3. When using the corvette suspension, the run of the mill early corvette had a 2.58:1 gear ratio, and had 25 inch tall tires. I have a 3.42 rear, and 27 inch tall tires, and it needs more gear. Overdrive would like lower gears too. If you want to be slow everywhere you go, use the tires you have, and get Wheel Vintique to make you a set of wheels to fit. There are a couple of options, you can get the rear ratio changed for about $700 to $1000, to a 3.20 or so,and then you can go to a bigger tire in the rear. I don't think the stock housings will take too much more. Or you can hunt around for a Z51 option rear with a 3.07 rear, and call it good. The 700R4 trans has a 3.21 low gear, but tall second gear, so you will always have to get the truck moving pretty quick, because when it shifts to second gear, they will pass you like you are standing still. well, that's about all I have time for, good luck! oh, by the way, the gear ratio is stamped on the bottom of the rear differential housing so the guys on the assembly line didn't put the wrong gears in the cars going down the line. Helped out us hot rodders too. My vote is 2002 corvette thinspokes. See if you can get 4 front wheels, that would make them all 17X8.5 inch wheel. Rears are 18", and 9.5 inches wide.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
Um, now that I think about it, I would paint the running boards, It would make the whole truck look like it flows from front to back. Right now, it looks chopped up with those bed steps standing out.
But that's just me.

Re: Just for fun - Which wheels do you like best?
Thanks for all the positive comments on the wheels it has now as well as all the suggestions. We took it to an outdoor show in Nanaimo today with about 150 cars and it received a ton of compliments. Saw a dark blue or black 55 when I was driving out, with 18's or bigger and it looked very nice.
I'd like to change the steps to body color and I'm on the lookout for a clean pair. The donor corvette I have is an 85 with the Z51 option. It has the 3.07 rear which I like as well as the bigger swaybars etc, handles great and stops really well. I'm hoping the earlier C4 will give me more choices for wheels because it is a bit narrower. I have considered just changing the rear diff or putting in a 5 speed. Pretty sure I want auto and v8 though, and just a bit better handling in the corners there aren't any straight roads around here....
