Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I've been looking through the site to see if anyone had really used these headers in a swap, and I only came across a few threads where folks asked about them, but never seemed to actually try them out. I was looking for a set of budget headers for my little brothers C10 and decided to go ahead and take the plunge and order them. Although we are still mocking things up, on the initial test fit these headers seem to fit very well. There is lots of clearance from the frame on both sides, and they only slightly hang below the frame giving great ground clearance.
The quality of these headers is a lot better than I expected for being less than $300 shipped, they have thick flanges, are 304 stainless steel, and 02 sensor bungs are already welded in. These are the Speed Engineering 1 3/4 in. longtube swap headers. I apologize in advance if pictures are crooked. If anyone needs any specific pictures, or has any questions let me know. Hopefully this will help a few folks out. -Zak

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Hi 67,
I see they list two 1 3/4" headers, one for camaro's and one for 1999+ suv and trucks, which ones did you get? I was also looking at PB but htey are 350 before shipping. Looks like Speed Engineering also has shorties for 169 for C-10, that might be an option for me as well.

Houston Ben,
These are the c10 ls swap specific headers. Here's a link to them on their website, they also have the longtubes in 1 7/8". http://www.speed-engineering.com/ls-...2-ls3-ls6.html -Zak

nobox351y,
How long have you had them on? How have they held up? That was one thing I was curious about since I'm still a ways away from starting the truck. -Zak

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I have a couple hours of run time on them. I am still working the kinks out of my setup. I am expecting them to last. Flanges are thicker than pricey headers Ive purchased, weld quality is good, stainless is awesome.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
On the shorty version fitment is good, a couple of stock plug wire boots touch the headers. Especially number 5.
Got 200 miles on my set and no leaks, and they sure look nice. |

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I ordered a set of the shorties for my 77 C10-6.0/4L80E swap. Had to trim the lower ears off the trans. Other than that, I am very pleased with them.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Has anyone tried these on a 4x4 yet? I'm getting ready to start an LS swap on my 84 K5 and am trying to figure out the exhaust...

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has used them in a 63-66.

I saw them and talked to a guy at Goodguys in Des Moines that is running them. Loves them!

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Thanks, I'm about to pull the trigger on a few final items and want to determine the final location of my 02 sensors connections as I do the final on my harness build.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
I've got them half installed in a 66 right now. I have a 4L80e so the PASS side does not fit and you have to trim the dust cover ears

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Speed tech crafts them polished. After a few heat cycles, they'll turn a nice, hazy bronze.

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
They post right on their website to use MSD plug wires. What is the best stainless header bolt to keep them tight?

Re: Speed Engineering LS Swap Headers Findings
Speed Engineering has a lot of happy customers. They are a sponsor and have a long thread on LS1tech.com about their f-body headers. You can't beat them for the price. I am not surprised to hear that these swap headers are good units as well.
