Correct oil for 65 C10
Hello Guys, just looking for some advice on engine oil for my C10,327 cu in V8 that I just brought back from the U.S, what grade do you guys run? Tempretures over here can vary from -3 or so in winter to +25 or so in summer (very rare!). Only going to do 3000 or so miles per year, mainly as a weekend cruiser? Any recommendations?
Also would you run standard EP90 in the diff and manual box? Cheers, Danny |

Re: Correct oil for 65 C10
I've found that 10W-30 seems to be a great all around oil for summer and winter. On a higher mileage engine I've been running 15W-40.

I agree with TJ's advice in both temperature ranges. You did not ask about the following, but I think I would (research first on maybe Google) most likely run an additive to help lubricate better than these modern-day oils do. [IIRC, in 1966 for ex., the 327's did not yet have the hardened valve seats; so, the likely need for valve lube additive to fuel; thus we almost always use fuel additives to lube the valves.]

Re: Correct oil for 65 C10
Cheers guys, I'll probably use an oil additive to help out. Do you think I should be running a fuel additive? I run my triumph spitfire with an addative as you could get leaded fuel over here until about 10 years ago. As it's not available anymore we have to add the "lead" for the valves. I was under the impression that all U.S. vehicles have been running on unleaded fuel for a lot longer??

As far as adding oil additive I have been adding ZDDP to any of my older engines for the last 6 or 7 years, before that I had a few older 5 gallon jugs of Rotella T 15/40 that I used that still had higher levels of zinc. I have found the Lucas brand of break in additive (ZDDP) in 16 oz bottles for about $10 at off road races when they have displays set up in the pits and I get 2 or 3 each time. This explains why today's oils have lower levels of zinc. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...older-engines/ Party On Wayne ! |
