52 front axle help

Sent off my front axle to Nostalgia Sid's to be reworked and lowered. I wasn't paying much attention when I removed it and now I am wondering if it matters which way it is mounted back in. Is there a front and back to a "front axle"? Thanks in advance for your response.

Re: 52 front axle help

I don't know if there is a "front & back" to the axle. mine has a locating hole centered in the mounting pad & one about 1" away from the center. I used the one off center to mount the axle further forward. centered the wheel better & has been that way for many years with no trouble.

Yes there is a front and back. The spring bolt holes will be angle to match the angle of the frame. There will be a center pin hole and a smaller hole for the shim tab that smaller hole goes to the back. If that smaller hole is not there look on the axle king pin boss you will see the pin lock bolt hole and another small hole. the small hole goes to the back. Its for the spindle stops
