From modern Chevy wheels to the vintage look

Installed alloy wheels back in 2003 when I built my daily driver work truck. After seeing a lot of guys going with steelies and watching my alloys deteriorating, l decided to go old school. I do like it better- what do ya'll think?

Much, much better.

How'd you get it to hang from the ceiling like that?

Re: From modern Chevy wheels to the vintage look

...those are both good looking options, but I guess I'd go with the original steel wheels look myself.
Luckily those modern aluminum alloys are becoming more available and economic and clearly an 'easy adder' for the 3/4 ton trucks, which is a nice option to have.

Both actually look nice, but there's no comparison once you see the two options - original.

Definitely like the steely look more. Are those rims widened?

Re: From modern Chevy wheels to the vintage look

They are the standard 16 x 7 ford wheels. This truck is a true hybrid- has a 02 dodge chassis (wanted the cummins) with a 72 Chevy body (now represents all of the big 3 with the ford wheels). The dodge track is a little wider than the original Chevy track & the ford wheels seem to have a shallow backset? Makes the tires stick out a little further than l would like- may make the wheels look wider than they are?

Re: From modern Chevy wheels to the vintage look

I think steelies look great. Living in Idaho maybe steelies in the summer for cruising and fishing. Then alloys with a studded tire for winter??

I wondered what was going on in front with no lock out hubs sticking out.

Re: From modern Chevy wheels to the vintage look

Awesome truck, even the modern rims looks nice on it!
Back when I was a kid my brothers best friend had the identical truck as yours and a wicked nice mid 60's Vette convertible with side pipes on it. I'd drool all over both the truck and Vette when he was at our house. I got quite a few rides in that truck, healthy engine under the hood and it was a 4 speed. I'd almost swear your truck is his, same everything including the ride height!
