Drip rail repair

Anybody repaired the drip rails on 67-72 trucks, my new project has some issues in this area that concerns me the most!

Pictures would be a help. It depends on where the rust is, how extensive, and whether it has traveled to the inside or not.... Be sure and check behind the visors inside. If you have bubbles in the paint there you will have rust also.

Replacement drip rails are available from the parts vendors.....

How bad are they?

Definitely check above the windshield. Push on the area above the windshield and pull the seal down to look for rust.

My truck just had minor damage around mine and it's good around the windshield so I recently sourced a set of clean originals as I've read the "look" of the aftermarket ones isn't correct. I literally just got them yesterday, so it will be a while before they come apart. Check the parts forum often for people offering cab cuts, that's how I got mine.

I had to replace the one at the drivers side. Dad had put a guttermount CB antenna there which caused a rust problem. I bought a replacement and don't remember it being much of a problem. Doesn't really line up as good as the original but looks OK. One thing I do remember is not seeing the center drip rail repo. Just the 2 sides. Good Luck.

Thank you guys, I'll check those areas yall mentioned. Majority of the rust is on the face of driprail. I hope. Thanks for your help!

Your post reminded me of something I saw on member Bruce88's build thread that might be of help to you and others:

Bruce88 used "Fill Welding" to repair rust around the windshield and drip rail areas.

I had seen this for filling holes such as trim holes but never to build up a thin area - I think what he did came out very well and probably easier than cutting out and replacement. Though the welding skills required look daunting to me anyway.

I did something similar when I pulled the back window in my truck. Found a bunch of small pin holes. Instead of cutting them all out with a big patch I drilled them out larger and filled them in. You'll quickly find out if the area is larger on the backside, the welder will either burn right through the metal or start to fill in.
