Tie rods

Helping my buddy do his spindle swap and he was told they were from a 1975 c10 but the 1975 tie rods are to big. What year did the tie rods change from 73-87. Also are the ball joints all the same for those years. I knew what year my were which made it easy. Oh and whats throwing me off is the rotors are 1 1/4 5 lug

Thx

Re: Tie rods

All changes are made by these years.
60-62
63-70
71-72
73-87

Sounds like you have 71-72 spindles?

Re: Tie rods

Which part of the tie rod is too big?
The threaded end?
Or the end that connects to the spindle.
63-70 tie rods are 5/8" thread.
71-87 tie rods are 11/16" thread.

Re: Tie rods

You need a tie rod adapter or you need to use a 73-87 centerlink and tie rods.
You also need to swap to 73-87 balljoints.

It would have been simple if you had just used 63-70 conversion spindles.
They are a direct bolt on.

Re: Tie rods

We are good there he had the whole linkage to 75. Did 1972 spindles accept the d52 calipers? These did and the 1 1/4 inch rotors

Re: Tie rods

Captainfab is correct.
The 71-72 upper balljoints are different than the 73-87 version.
But the lowers are the same.

If you have 1975 parts use 1975 balljoints and tie rods. Including the centerlink and idler arm. (Which will have to be correctly mounted to your frame since it mounts in a different location)

Squarebody 2wd suburbans used the same front suspension parts as the 73-87 trucks through 1991.
In 1992 the suburbans got the 88-98 truck parts.
