When is c notch required?

Right now my 86swb has a leaf removed for a mild drop, but its not low enough. How low before a c notch is required. Or does the truck tell you by bottoming out?

Re: When is c notch required?

You won't really need one, even with a flip. With a notch, the pumpkin hits the bed floor before the axle tubes will. With bumpstops removed, I'm not sure what would hit first - the pumpkin or the tubes - it's be close.

I notched mine when I flipped the axle, but I don't think it's necessary.

Re: When is c notch required?

If you dont plan on hauling anything or towing anything you can go low as 6" drop with no notch and if you plan on that anything more than 4" drop you will need one....i did 6" flip kit with notch.....but didn't need it since i never hauled or towed with it.

Re: When is c notch required?

I've had 1700lbs of sand in the back of my truck, with a flip on heavy 8-leaf pack. Box floor sitting on the pumpkin, axle tubes ~still~ not into the frame notch I cut.

Though - riding low, cornering, ~and~ hitting a bump - the notch might be needed, since on a one-wheel bump that end may want to move higher than the frame rail.

If I were to do it again, I would NOT notch the frame, and "try it and see" if I actually need one.

Re: When is c notch required?

I agree with previous posters. Lower it until you are happy and THEN decide if you want/need the notch. You can probably go as low as you want and not ever require the notch.

Re: When is c notch required?

Just drove 4k miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour with a flip and a shackle. The tubes hit only on sharp bumps but not the pumpkin. I have a new 4 leaf pack as well. I had about 150 lbs in the bed and 550 lbs of rednecks in the cab.
