T5 Bearing Retainer Length

Howdy Folks! New to this Forum! I have already learned alot of great stuff here!
I am in the process of installing a T5 into a Chevrolet 292. I have already changed Input Shaft to a shorter 14 spline Astro Van Input Shaft. I also have cut the Bearing Retainer. My question is this - should the Splines end before the Retainer? Or, still have splines going all the way into Retainer?
