Rolled 65 chevy truck

Look what I found about 3 miles from my house. It needs a cab but has a nice frame and bed. Thinking about making it a hot rod with a 454.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Wow! For a minute there I thought that YOU rolled YOUR truck! Nice find. There seems to be plenty of good stuff there. What are your plans for the cab? Looks like finding another cab would be time and money well spent rather than attempting to repair that one.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Not sure what I am going to do with this cab but I think it is to bad to fix. I have another cab found I could get for a song. Any idea on an old school hot rod? I was thinking primer black with a huge motor

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

I may sound like an old fart but big engine = gas hog go fast but not very useful. Expensive to build the engine. Tears up transmissions too. Plus all that power needs a safe reliable suspension. That means more money.
How about just making it a cool looking ride with great styling? Black, red, yellow, any color will work. Just make sure you can stay in budget. What good will it be if you have a great big engine if you run out of money?
Don't let me tear apart your vision or dream. It's your truck so build what makes you happy. Just make sure it's safe.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Doesn't look like a roll over more like he hit a protruding object up high?? On second thought looks like it rolled on the drivers side and the roof buckled...

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Just cut the roof off, make some front pillars to hold a windshield and go roadster style!

Depending on the condition of the rest of the cab, that one wouldn't be that hard to fix. Just need another roof section from the bottom of the windows up. It looks like the rear of the cab is not damaged much.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Not sure on the plans for the cab. Might look into replacing the top. It is a big back window but would be easier to replace the cab. I think the back of the cab is bent also. It is touching the front of the bed section

If you decide it is not worth the effort and want get rid of it keep me in mind. I would like to find one for a different kind of project, just don't want to use one that is in good enough shape for a truck build. Thanks.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Well I got my blue 66 completed and drove it some and sold it last week It now lives in Texas. I am going to start working on this 65. Just going to make it a driver. Probably going with a cammed up 350 and leave the 3 speed on the column. I have a set of ralley rims found. Just need a cab ( a guy up the road has one I can get for a song) a hood a passenger door and a 350. Stay tuned

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Bought a 69 350 engine last night going to pick it up tomorrow. All I need now is a hood and passenger door and windshield, rockers and cab corners. I am going to trade a friend of mine for all the above for a 235 I have laying around. I have the rolled truck in the shop and my son is going to start the tear down tomorrow.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

Are you considering swapping out the roof and A pillars? I did one last year and had a build thread in the 67-72 forum called "Meet Homer".
One day had both roofs off and one tacked in place. Next day stich welded back up, & I had to swap entire back of cab also. Looks like that rolled cab is not too bad, especially with that big back window. I would want to save it if it was me.
My .02Cents.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

I need to get a couple more pictures of the cab. It is really bad. I think the back glass area could be used on a big back glass conversion. The floor on the passenger side it buckled up and has come apart from the lower firewall. The back of the cab is bent out and touching the bed. The firewall on the passenger side has a bent in spot it is rough. I have a guy who is suppose to buy the cab and make something out of it but he has not got back with me.

Re: Rolled 65 chevy truck

If it was rolled, I'd check the frame is straight also.
