Putting door handle on door correctly (1970 Chevy)
Right now my door handle is placed incorrectly. Basically, if the door handle is at a certain position the door keeps shut when I close the door, but when the door handle is at another position and I close the door it does not keep shut and will even open when I am driving.
I took the door panel off and trying to figure out how to put the door handle correctly. Appreciate your advice if there is some steps I need to follow when putting the door handle. Thanks |

I don't understand. There's just one position for the exterior handle. Can you describe these positions? Interior or exterior handle?

interior door handle ,sounds like the latch actuator spring may be broken or the latch its self is worn out . look at the rivet on the door latch to see if it's loose if it is replace the latch

Re: Putting door handle on door correctly (1970 Chevy)
There is a spring (clip) that goes around the handle to keep it in place, but that one is not broken. Also, once I put the handle in is position with the spring (clip) the handle does not turn do possible worn parts, it turns normally.

The handle won't cause that anyway. Do what Grumps said. If that's right then it's the latch control. Only other possibility I can imagine is the rod between the control and latch, though I wouldn't think it would cause the problem. Give me a holler if you're stumped on assembly.
