1981 C10 Power Steering Problems
Hey Y'all, I need some help. I identified my power steering leak on my pressured line. I thought I will go ahead and replace pressure and return line since I will have to drain the system.
ISSUE...I honestly cant get any of the bolts out, back of the power steering pump or off the power steering gear box. I tried soaking in WD40 etc. Any thoughts or suggestions before I take it to a shop?

Why do you need to take the box off? Should not need to. But you can try heat

I need to loosen the bolts for the lines that connect to the box, not the box itself. I got a quote for $100 bucks for 1.5 hrs of labor f I cant get them off myself. Hate to go that route though.

WD-40 might be good if you have a squeaky screen door but that's about it. You need a good penetrating oil. This is the best I've found.

Pb blaster also works good,But you gotta give it a day or two to really work in.

Thanks for the input. I ended up taking it to a shop yesterday. $100 bucks to install them. Guy told me it took him around 3 hours to get the bolts loose. I would say that was a $100 well spent. I will for sure try those other products in the future.

Re: 1981 C10 Power Steering Problems
Mix 1 part acetone with 1 part trans fluid.(50/50)
Excellant for removing stuck, rusty parts and penetrating tight bolts/threads. And, a damn sight cheaper than the canned stuff! Put it in a spray bottle and shake before use. Mike. |
