Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
Four of the five wheels are three nub 5 lug wheels. Will they work on my 71 with factory disks and P01 hubcaps? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Re: Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
They will work on the rear but not on the front. The 4 nubs have the correct backspacing for disk brakes the 3 nub do not.
You can tell how different the backspacing is by looking at the sides of them. Cant tell as well with the tires on but they are very different. |

Re: Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
I agree with the reply above also - you need the four nub wheels. I see you are in Smyrna and I am down in Murfreesboro - really close. I have five of the 5 lug 4 nub steel rims, but have decided to stay with the 6 lug rims. PM me if you are looking for some.

Re: Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
Lincolns and full-size Ford cars used the 5 on 5 pattern. I'd try and see, if they are the same as the 4-nub in all other ways. I discovered the nub thing on 6-lug wheels and can only assume it's the same for 5-lug, but could be wrong. I also have seen someone put a 3-nub 6-lug with disc brakes before. So, not a 100% way to know

Re: Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
Thanks special-K. The guy says they are the original wheels off his 72. I'm going to try them and will post what happens.

72 should clear disk no matter what I'd think.

I would see these 15 x 8 5 on 5 steelies are a swap meet, but they had 3-nubs. I passed them up a few times. I figured they were from an earlier big Ford car with drums. But also one bead was pretty rusty, or I may have gave them a try.

Re: Three nub versus four nub with disk brakes
Ok mystery kind of solved. Picked up the wheels today and they are in fact 4 nub. The guy I bought them from just didn't know what he was looking for when I asked him the question. So I'm going to assume that 71 and 72 5 lug trucks do require 4 nub wheels until its proven otherwise.

Till proven other wise is right. Lesson learned today is sometimes word of mouth is inaccurate

No way !! This is the internet, after all everything you google is true, you should know this. Even Abraham Lincoln said you couldn't believe everything you read on the internet.
