Re: 1991 electric suburban gauges into a square ls swap

The 91 guage cluster pinout diagram is on here somewhere if you search for it. On my 86, there were only 4 or 5 wires that needed to be swapped around in the plug. A very small flat head screwdriver is all you need to remove the connectors from the plug.

Ill try and look for another set next time i go and try to see if anyone on here needs them.

Re: 1991 electric suburban gauges into a square ls swap

Putting these gauges from my 04 donor in one of my 78 c10's I'm gonna have to keep checking in on this thread and start stockpiling these 89-91 burban/k5 gauges for sale.are they just the 89-91,or will the 87 and 88 work as well?

Re: 1991 electric suburban gauges into a square ls swap

Here is some info that might help. You'll need to confirm your original pinout.

88’/87' Cluster Pinout
Pin # - Function – Wire Color
1 – High Beam Indicator – Light Green
2 – 12v+ for gauge illumination (headlight switch) - Gray
3 - Volt Gauge Ground – Black
4 - Volt Gauge 12v+ - Pink/Black
5 – Oil Pressure Signal - Brown
6 – Ignition Switched 12v+ - Pink/Black
7 – Fuel Gauge Signal - Pink (no contact on cluster for this pin)
8 – ground - Black (no contact on cluster for this pin)
9 – Coolant Temp Signal – Dark Green
10 – Ground – Black
11 – Left Blinker – Light Blue
12 – Right Blinker – Blue
13 – Seat Belt Light – Yellow
14 – Empty
15 – SES Ground – Brown/White
16 – Ignition Switched 12v+ - Pink/Black
17 – Park Brake – Dark Brown/White
18 – Fuel Gauge Signal - Pink

90' Cluster Pinout
1 - High Beam Indicator - Light Green
2 - Ground - Black
3 - Oil Pressure Gauge From Sender - Brown
4 - 12 Volt + Keyed From Ignition - Pink
5 - Low Voltage Warning Lamp - Dark Brown
6 - Not Used
7 - Not Used
8 - Coolant Temperature Gauge From Sender - Dark Green
9 - 12 Volt + Controlled By Headlight Switch - Light Gray
10 - Left Turn Signal Indicator - Light Blue
11 - Right Turn Signal Indicator - Dark Blue
12 - 4x4 Indicator Lamp - Empty on my 2wd Cluster
13 - Seat Belt Warning Lamp - Yellow
14 - Fuel Gauge From Sender - Pink
15 - Park Brake/Unequal Pressure Warning Lamp - Brown/White Stripe
16 - SES (Service Engine Soon) Lamp - Dark Brown/White Stripe
17 - 12 Volt + Keyed From Ignition Switch - Pink/Black Stripe
18 - Speedometer From Sender - Light Blue/Black Stripe

Repin Matrix (Pin # from 88' Cluster to new pin # on 90' Cluster)
i.e. "2 -> 9" would mean to move pin from position #2 into position #9
If New Location is "Removed" the wire is no longer needed and can be taped off

Wire Color / Original Location / New Location / Function

(Lt Green)..........1 -> 1...............High Beam
(Gray)...............2 -> 9...............12v+ from HL Switch
(Black)..............3 -> 2...............Ground
(Pink/Black).......4 -> 4...............12v+ Ignition Switched
(Brown).............5 -> 3...............Oil Pressure
(Pink/Black).......6 -> Remove......12v+ Ignition Switched
(Pink)................7 -> Remove.....Fuel Signal (Duplicate pin tied to the other fuel signal pin originally installed in location 18)
(Black)..............8 -> Remove.....Ground
(Dark Green)......9 -> 8..............Coolant Temperature
(Black).............10 -> Remove.....Ground
(Light Blue).......11 -> 10.............Left Blinker

It should be fairly similar. You'll need to compare wire colors and pin positions.

I would give that a shot.

The "LS" PCM terminal 50 is a conditioned 4,000 (4K) pulses per mile DC square wave... http://lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm

The 1990 & 1991 wiring diagrams show a DRAC for the speedometer and cruise control. The T400 CK series DRAC outputs conditioned 4,000 (4K) pulses per mile DC square wave. I doubt GM made a special DRAC for the 1990 & 1991 R & V series light trucks.

For oil pressure drill and tap the oil cooler plate and put the original sending unit there. Its right above the oil filter and pre drilled already.

Re: 1991 electric suburban gauges into a square ls swap

I think I drilled and tapped it for 1/4npt. Then used a bushing to get to 1/8npt. It's been a couple years since I did that.
