windsheild concern/question

Yesterday I picked up a new windshield. I had wanted a Pilkington windshield and the lady at the desk said she had ordered it directly form Pilkington, however; when got home and unwrapped it I could not find any sign of it being from Pilkington. I am going to attach a picture of the sticker that was on the windshield. Hopefully someone can tell me if I got the correct windshield.

Read windshieldscost.com OEM vs Aftermarket

Every Pilkington windshield I've ever used had the Pilkington name printed on the glass

Re: windsheild concern/question

I presume the glass elsewhere, or under the sticker, does not say Pilkington? I do not think that glass is Pilkington then. I don't think that's a big deal as long as it doesn't matter to you (mine's Chinese, so I obviously don't care). But if it does matter, keep on looking I think!

It does appear to the right glass however, but I could only find it with the green tint, which is a different part number. Which tint are you looking for?

Re: windsheild concern/question

It defiantly looks like the right windshield. It is made by Vitro and is from Mexico. It has a tint which I don't mind but I was expecting it to be greenish like my old one. I guess the question I should have asked is if anyone has used this brand and can vouch for its quality or if it is junk like some I have read about on this site.

I believe:

DW00685GTN - Green Tint
DW00685GBN - Green Tint with blue shade

So either -should- be greenish, I'd think. Easiest way I know is to hold a white cloth up behind it.

Re: windsheild concern/question

I went through the same thing that you did. Called my local window place, yes, we can get Pilkington, ordered the one for my truck, when to pick it up and about threw it over my shoulder since it was soo much lighter than the original. They are not as thick as the original ones. The make up of the lamination layers is different. Mine had the same sticker on it and the CrinaMex water mark on it. Guy said that they use a lot of them. It has the green tint like stock with the blue visor tint.

Installation went fine for a first timer, took around and hour with the help of a friend. Also used the Precision gasket and the stock stainless trim.

So far, there have been no issues after 1300 miles of driving. It does the job and looks original, until you look real close at the water mark.

Make sure and seal the upper corners (6" vertical and 6" horizontal from the corner) with windshield sealant to prevent leaks. Picked a tube up from the windshield guy. They also glued on my rear view mirror, since mine is a 72.

Re: windsheild concern/question

The Vitro windshield you got is one of the best out there now I installed glass for over 35 years and I may be wrong but I don't think Pilkington still makes the old ones. Vitro makes all kind of auto glass for the big three as well as some of the cars from Japan that are assembled here. Would like to see truck after you get it installed. Take your time keep glass cleaner spray on gasket as you go.
