Cragar wheel question

I'm trying to figure out if I would be able to run a stock hub cap on the Cragar Delux 69 wheels by using hub cap clips. I've seen people do it on Detroit steel wheels and the smoothies that centerline make, but those are a bit out of my price range
.

Re: Cragar wheel question

The first guy who put clips on those Detroit wheels went into the unknown and the rest followed. Looks like it's your turn to be the first guy.

I don't think I'll ever get used to people using "Cragar" to identify anything but the Cragar SS after all the decades of only those being "Cragars". That wheel needs to be identified with it's trade name

Re: Cragar wheel question

Not that you can tell, but these are delux 69s, the factory hub caps are one hell of a squeeze to get on if you want to go this route. I gave up on the clip idea pretty quick when I found these.

Same here. I had to see the picture before the mental image of a Cragar SS with a hubcap on it made any sense.

Now I do remember the Mach 8s. Does anyone else? But see, those are called "Cragar Mach 8s"

Here's a hot set of Cragars
http://d2ydh70d4b5xgv.cloudfront.net...44a6e2eb6f.jpg

They got into other wheels, but Cragars means Cragar S/S to me. Sorry to side track your thread.

Maybe you could make something that bolts to the lug nuts that hubcaps could clip on

Those are still around but their black, and they go by "soft 8s" now.

Re: Cragar wheel question

They also had the "sst" wheels.
They were sweet wheels till the perimeter bolts got rusty. And a pita to get them on the studs.

Open I think the clips would be your best bet.

Mach 8s have been gone since the '70s. There are wheels today that have a similar look. They were cast aluminum. The Soft 8s they came out with decades later are powder coated stamped steel. On Mach 8s the holes were rounded squares/ovals, like aluminum slots but with 8 smaller slots instead of 5.
