Temp sensor alternate location

A PS install caused some shuffling of the hot water ports on my 327. The two at the front of the intake manifold aren't an option. The ones in the heads would run the sensor into the headers. The only place that still looks fairly easy to spin this sensor into would be the plugged port at the top of the water pump. Is this a viable option for the temp gauge sending unit?

The Alt was moved to above the manifold, so there is no longer enough clearance for the temp sensor.

I've notched header flanges a little to clear the sending unit...is that a option..?

It's not the flange. With the adapters, the sensor would hit the head pipe coming back from the #1 cylinder.

May-be drill and tap closer to T-STAT (hard to see if it would clear alt in this pic)

What about the port on the passenger side..it would be at the back of the block..that's where mine is located

Same problem. The rear cylinder's head pipe runs parallel with the head, so would hit the sensor.

Ok back to the drawing board...what about putting a "t" on the intake where you have the heater hose..hose on one leg ..t-stat on the other...that 90 brass fitting in your pic..

If I was gonna drill and tap I would pull it off...don't want all those shavings in the cooling system..those thermostat spacers would work to but are kinda pricey..

Didn't know about a thermostat housing spacer option. Who sells these?

The reason i posted the one in post #2 is it has 1/2" pipe thread the summit one is 3/8" and just what does this mean? "Notes: Adapter does not raise location of thermostat." Temp sensor has to be below T-stat........ Also OP asked about using the port in the water pump that would ONLY tell you what the coolant temp coming OUT of the radiator is.... NOT engine temp

Outside of the 3/8 -1/2 npt difference it looks like conflicting summit info...down at the bottom it also says.. (These Meziere water neck spacers are designed to move the thermostat and housing up 1 in. higher than the intake manifold.)... i see now it also says.. (Adapter does not raise location of thermostat.)...the 3/8 part didn't concern me..that can be drilled and tapped...I'm just used to modifying things to fit my needs..but the one from joes is bolt and go..

Looks like enough space under the alt to screw in an angle fitting and adapt from that..
