Attn original paint patina lovers: strap on your drool buckets...
Well, thought I would share this little jewel - stumbled across it a few days ago driving thru some backroads between Fort Worth and Austin - and stopped by again today to get some pics. I have not seen it on craigslist or ebay, and I look often. Anyway, I spoke with Gabe of "Down Unda Muscle Garage" or something like that - a small business, and a heck of a nice guy, that fixes up old trucks/cars and sells them at the "Down Unda Trading Post" (he also had some VERY patina'ed chevs in addition to this one - a 60 and 61 - one a short step 1/2 and one a long step 3/4). Anyway, I digress... Clearly this is not mine, but I wish it was - almost(!) bought it, but didn't, and thought I'd pass it along. I love the paint (it's trim tag matches, an original 518 solid lt yellow, swb, standard trim truck), love the patina - and I don't even like the word patina. The truck apparently never left Lampassas TX, and it still sports the cool engraved Chev dealer bumper from just down the street. Gabe said he is selling it under consignment for the original owner, a rancher up the road. And I think I believe him. He did say the guy turned down a $7500 offer, just so you're aware - but also said it's been there for a month, so, good luck. It even has the cattle fence in the stake pockets still. It's about as no frills as they come - straight 6, no ps or pb, radio delete, and the only air flow control I saw was the basic single air pull knob. Interior is original, but seat foam and cover need to be replaced. Bed, well, it had cows in it, so there you go. I was on the brink of swearing off my 3/4 ton oath and hot rodding this little thing with an old 327, T5, some black steelies and white caps (and disks, and vintage air, and ps, the list was growing rapidly...). But, clearly, I'm broke.... So, enjoy. If you're interested, the only way I know to get in touch is to call the trading post and ask for Gabe. Btw, he did mention the straight 6 runs fine - but I didn't start it up.

Yes, I agree this truck has the look. Funny how a decade ago this asking price would have seemed insane. Now it's a little spendy, but not totally out of line.

Folks around Texas value our trucks a lot girer than most places. Might be why they kepp them for so long.

I think it's pretty cool that this truck spent at least some of its life hauling cattle as a shortbed!! Trying to picture it slammed with the cattle rack still in place.... Na, that'd be silly. I'd probably lose the rack, but it sure adds to the story. I've always had a thing for lt yellow trucks that have patina. I'm not CRAZY about the color when it looks all shiny and restored (but I do still like it). But yellow with patina like this looks great to me. I can picture this truck CLR'ed...

Re: Attn original paint patina lovers: strap on your drool buckets...
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but here is another similar truck. These photos of are the exact same truck in front of the same house taken approx. 25 years apart. I was into these vehicles 36 years ago, when there was very little interest in this body style by the "media". Went to the door in 1980, orig owner did not want to sell. This was very typical back then, most owners did not want to sell these trucks, and very few were in newspapers, or in used car lots or seen on roads with For Sale signs. Second photo is from around 2005. Still wasn't for sale. This truck is no longer in the same location, probably the original owner's family moved taking the truck with them. The difference between purchasing then ( a used truck sold at used truck prices) and purchasing now ( collectors item sold at collector car prices).
