292 exhaust manifold Help!

Hello all, new to the forum and I have a question regarding my 64 c30.
I'm trying to locate a exhaust manifold for my 292 and have read mixed things on fitment.
I looked at one from summit but it says it will not fit a 64!?
I've located a used one from a 68 292 but am hesitant to get it without knowing it will fit for sure.
Common sense would tell me most inline 6s would interchange.
So I guess my question is: will any year 292 manifold work or is there something special with the 64?
Thanks!
Oh here's the truck I got it at a auction for 600 bucks!

Re: 292 exhaust manifold Help!

For what it's worth, my 292 is a GM crate motor and I'm running my old 250 intake and exhaust manifolds on it. Everything bolted right up with no problems.

Re: 292 exhaust manifold Help!

They are all the same until they went with the integrated heads.

Ok good to know, so all 292's are interchangeable? Rumor has it 250's work as well, does that sound right?
Thanks guys.

Re: 292 exhaust manifold Help!

From everything I know, the standard head is basically the same, it's the block that is different for the 292 and the smaller CI engines.

All 292 parts are interchangeable between each other up until they used the integrated head and I believe water pumps differed through the years for them. 250's shared the same head and exhaust manifolds, but had a smaller intake like the 230. Heads are the same on the 230-250-292 and so are the bores, but the strokes are different. The 250 is a stroked 230 and the 292 is a taller block due to the rather long 4.125 inch stroke.

Re: 292 exhaust manifold Help!

The 292 engines in the med. duty trucks (1 1/2 ton up) had a larger ex. outlet & it pointed straight down. The 1 ton & smaller interchanged with the 250 ex. manifolds although there are some minor differences. Some where around 71 they switched to a 3 bolt flange. Either will work if you change the flange on the exhaust pipe. I always tried to use 250-230 manifolds if you use used ones. The ex. on 292 engines run very hot & generally are warped or cracked.
