por 15 questions

About to paint my frame with por 15. Just curious if I need to make sure all of the old paint is off? Thanks for any input

Re: por 15 questions

I know I should get majority of it off. Just wasn't sure if I should get it down to clean metal. I also have the metal prep stuff and the degreaser.

Re: por 15 questions

Does not work very good on clean/bare metal, it will peel. Works best with the loose stuff brushed off and applied to the rusty areas.

Re: por 15 questions

I would knock any loose paint off but not take it to bare metal. Maybe if you have access to a pressure washer that would probably do it.

Re: por 15 questions

Remember that POR15 should be top coated. UV sunlight will turn it gray. I know it's under the truck, but parked on concrete, the rays will reflect. So it might be a problem.

Re: por 15 questions

POR = paint over rust.

Always best to read the instructions before starting.

Re: por 15 questions

If you are going to clean it and remove all the rust I would just go with a good 2k epoxy. I initially did my frame in POR15 and it chipped in some areas. Once it chipped it started to peal away. I stripped it all off and reshot it in epoxy.
