75-76 deluxe grille chrome removal
I would like to put the original grille back on my 75 Chevy and have a deluxe grille with the stainless inserts. However, the moldings have a few dings to be worked out and its not clear how the moldings were attached (glue or ??) at the factory.
Does anybody have some words of wisdom for a best removal method hopefully something that does not break the plastic grille. I am all ears. Darwin |

Re: 75-76 deluxe grille chrome removal
I am bumping this up because I think there is somebody that knows how the grille chrome was attached to the grille. There are no studs or screws on the back side. It must have been glued on or two sided tape used. LMC sells the chrome strips but has no instruction as to installation.
Any clues which solvents that might work? I have a nice grille with beat up chrome moldings that either need fixing or changing. Comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Re: 75-76 deluxe grille chrome removal
I have a 77 with a V22 option.(Chrome Grill) My grill is in mint shape so I never took the strips off. AFAIK they just snap on the base grill. No glue involved.
Picture below. Thanks; Larry |

Re: 75-76 deluxe grille chrome removal
Larry,
Thanks for the comments. If you look at page 42 of the LMC catalogue it looks like the 77-79 chrome strip upgrade bolts on with studs and self threading nuts. On the same diagram part number 6 it shows the chrome moldings for the 75 76 grille and there are no studs or nuts. I have these strips and they fit the 75 76 grille perfectly but appeared to be fastened with either glue, two sided tape or silicone or other. There are no directions or instructions. I can fasten these no problem. My issue is i have another grille with the chrome strips fastened already and I want to remove them. I don't want to break the grille as they are not reproduced. If I had an idea how the factory may have done it then I stand a better chance to dismantle it without damage. |
