Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
Odd to see that a Colorado looks bigger than our old full-size trucks. Bigger is not necessarily better.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
They're a pretty good sized truck especially to not be a full size. My uncle just bought a Canyon and it crazy how much bigger it looks next to my 71 or his old Tacoma.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
I don't like that the small trucks keep getting bigger. The extra room inside is kind of nice, some were too narrow. But bigger just means more weight, worse fuel economy and less maneuverability. Plus the current crop of small trucks are all up high like they're 4wd even if they're 2wd which is pointless if you ask me and only hurts gas mileage.

FORD Mirrors. . .
Unbelievable. Chevy put one of their trucks in a Chevy Ad but with Ford mirrors. What were they thinking? |

Exactly. Seeing those mirrors on Chevy/GMC trucks is an instant turnoff.

Hehehyeah, $30,000-worth of plastic and electronics vs. $10,000 of durable, simple utility. And that 68's not even factory original!

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
Wrong wheels too, but I would still take the 68 if it were offered to me. Tough to beat that color combination. Is that a 60s era woman standing next to it? (I graduated high school in 69).

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
It's a shame GM could not just offered a new S-10 ? Toyota has been making stupid profits for decades with its piece of crap Tacoma because no one else offered a true small pickup anymore. Interesting to see what Ford does with the Ranger that's coming soon.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
That picture is very deceiving, as I sometimes park next to a Colorado and my truck is QUITE a bit bigger. It might be a little taller, hard to say. But not pictured, they've exaggerated the perspective. Which is probably a smart thing in a car ad, don't want your new truck looking small and weak next to its grandfather!

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
I'd be willing to bet those aren't Ford mirrors. They look just like the cheap aftermarket mirrors you could buy anywhere in the 80's. I had a pair of them from Western Auto on my truck before I tore it down.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
My dad has a GMC Canyon so once my truck is back together and running I'll go for a comparison pic without any camera tricks.
The Canyon has been a good truck but the 5 cylinder engine is very weak and labors under any sort of load. The computer went crazy on it and that was a $400.00 fix. Dad won't allow anyone to touch the trip meter now, for fear the computer goes crazy again. The 4 doors are neat but the 5 foot bed looks funny. I'd rather have a 4x4 version of my '72. |

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
I wanted a z71 v6 6spd Colorado last year. They were so hot (I think GM still can't keep up with demand) that there were NO incentives. I bought a 5.3l 2LT z71 Silverado for 3k more.... great little trucks, especially with the diesel.

I was going to say, the mirror does seem a bit low for the driver see.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
Crazy. Downsized trucks are now larger than full-size trucks of the past that did more hauling than these will ever see. Small trucks were a good idea. What happened to that great idea?
Those are K-Mart mirrors Ford put on their trucks.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
Geez that's one ugly truck... For the money they want for a new one I will just go on Craigslist and get a couple classics... Preferably a 72 C10 and a 73 C10.

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
I love and prefer old stuff. But, I will say comparing a new vehicle to old ones by dollar amount is a failed process. One you drive drive drive, make payments, and go wherever you want for quite a few years. The other you have to keep up with. I know, because I tried. I run 20-30k a year and it took up a lot of my weekends keeping my daily nice... or at least running well. I ordered a new truck in '92 and drove it till '14/335k, while I enjoyed messing with my older stuff when I had the time.
I think the problem is this thread is posted in the 67-72 message board where we are keyed up to see 67-72 stuff, not brand new stuff. There is a message board for those, too. The ad is about the Colorado, not the '68

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
Good thinking Special K! But I know that 68 truck was aimed right at me. I couldn't even see the other truck. They put the old one there to give the new one some respectability. Sort of like putting me in a photo with my grandson..

Re: Check out this 2016 Colorado advertisement
I, too, succumbed to the need for something less maintenance intensive and more economical - so I kept my old trucks and bought a Cruze. I honestly looked at the new Colorado a few months ago, for about one day or until I figured out that I have to spend well over 30K to get anything more than a white-paint/black-plastic work truck. I could take 4 months' payment on that thing and make my '85 immaculate, then have the 8' bed and 10K towing capacity in a rig that's paid for, in addition to the Cruze that'll be much cheaper to be in 90% of the time.
