Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I'm looking for what's called the strut in the attached picture, for both rear sides. Thanks!

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
Have fun with that one. I just went through this on my 68. I gave up. I just cleaned up the old one and reused it. I looked for weeks.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
Yikes...i never had the complete drums to begin with, otherwise I'd just reuse them.
Neither of my rebuild kits came with them, so gotta keep searching.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I think that part is the same all the way into the late 80's for similar type brakes, are your brakes 11 x 2 inches? What do you want to pay for that? Are you also missing the lever that the parking brake cable attaches to? I think those 2 parts are not available new.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I'm not running a parking brake, so I would just need the struts. 11X2, that's correct.
I'll pay more than they're worth, I'm sure, but within reason

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
That part and the spring are not reproduced. NOS or good used is going to be your only options.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I've found the spring at Rock Auto. It's a Raybestos part #H1338-2 which is a PAIR of springs. So you only need a quantity of 1 if you purchase. I ordered 2 and got 4 springs total.

If your not running a parking brake then you don't need that part.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
Doesn't the end of it engage the parking brake arm to actuate front brake pad by the lever rotating on the rear pad?

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I have the struts but you don't need them since your not running parking brakes. The brakes will install and work fine without them.

I figured it was needed to keep the shoes from moving around or something to that effect.

Your welcome, I think I do have the parts, I'm sure you don't need them though.

Re: Looking for 68 drum rear brake parts
I have lots of those struts and levers...sending PM now, anybody else need some?
To be clear lets say $12.50 per strut or lever, or both sides for $40. I will be taking these off complete brake assemblies I have removed from bad axles. I have at least a few sets, they originated from 73-87 trucks and some our years, the brakes are the same, 11 x 2, I even thing the wider brakes are the same as the backing plate is offset to accommodate the wider shoes, not the axle or housing. There you go you got my SECRET... To add a bit more...I am sure you can even add the newer trucks wider brakes to our axles for an upgrade to larger drum brakes, I don't remember the size of the later model brakes, I think 11 inch diameter still but, 2 3/4 inch wide???
