door locks

When the door is locked is the key slot supposed to run horizontal or vertical?

Re: door locks

Also, depending on your year(60-61 -62?), ONLY the passenger side had the lock, IF you are going back OEM authentic.

I still added the lock to the drivers door.........

Re: door locks

Seriously? Only the passenger side? What were you supposed to do when you didn't have a passenger, crawl across the seat to unlock the driver's door??

Re: door locks

Drivers door came with the keyed lock, the passenger side did not. It was optional to have a passenger side keyed lock. And yes, if you wanted to unlock the passenger door that did not have a keyed lock on the exterior, you had to lean across and use the interior door handle to let them in.
There was a promotional Rain Bonnet offered by the salesmen to prospective clients wives. lol

Yes, it was a law that you could not enter from the street side (safety issue) many old movies show this happening.

Google it.

Re: door locks

We have two Chevys at work, an '11 & a '10. The '11 has locks on both sides, but not electric. The '10 only has it on driver's side! What moron at GM decides that a modern pickup only gets one lock???

A lot of cars built in the last fifteen years or so only have one door lock cylinder.

Same with my 66 C-10. Drivers side only (and was original doors to the cab, no signs of ever being repaired or replaced)

BUT, JB is absolutely correct. My 50 5window 3/4 ton only had passengers key lock. but the 58 has NO keyed handle either side,,, but the 59 had Dirvers side only. So I'd suspect the practice of Passengers side only key lock must have ended some time in the 50's.

Unless I'm mistaken,, starting in ~about 2012ish GM puts only Drivers side key lock,, and a key fob that unlocks everything with the press of a magical button.

Next thing you know they will start putting prop rods back on hoods like my old '60 Falcon I had in high school...Wait a minute! My wife's Equinox has a prop rod! GM snuck up on me while I wasn't looking again!
