Recommend me a good battery tie down
Looking for a good quality batter hold down/tie down for my 87 Silverado Truck 5.7L
I'm hoping someone knows of one that fits well without a lot of messing around or having to alter anything before it can be used. It would also be nice if it wasn't too expensive, but if I have to pay more for a good one I will. Thanks |

Re: Recommend me a good battery tie down
Factory battery tray with wedge has worked on every vehicle I've ever owned, including through accidents that bent frames. Is there some other issue? Like wrong size battery, no tray, no inner fender or rad support, or relocated battery? If the tray is OK the wedge and bolt are junkyard cheap, or I think I saw one in the HELP section for under $10.
On my old tractors I use a $12 adjustable kit from TSC.

Re: Recommend me a good battery tie down
My '87 had nothing holding the battery in place when I bought it. Ordered a new rubber clamp from GM, think it was an entire $2 and then found a bolt in our bin. Even after putting the redtop battery in the same factory hold down works fine.

Re: Recommend me a good battery tie down
The factory battery hold down works fine for both of my dual batteries. I have had trouble with the factory wedge in the desert heat - the wedge became very brittle and did not make a good grip on the battery, so I replaced it.
I would also buy a battery mat to put under your battery to reduce the sulfation in the tray which eventually rots the tray. This will likely require a longer bolt for the wedge, since the mat is about 1/4" thick. |

Re: Recommend me a good battery tie down
Yeah unfortunately the factory one doesn't fit my current battery. Ended up having to shelve it cause it just won't go on there now. So I was looking for an aftermarket replacement.

Re: Recommend me a good battery tie down
angle iron and a long 1/4" J bolt down each side. Angle iron turned so that each outside edge touches the battery. Works great on my rock crawlers and CUCV.
