Is this driver or passenger side
I don't like all that "left" and "right" side. It varies too wildly depending on who you're talking to, and what part of the vehicle you happen to be facing at the time. I don't know why everything isn't just "driver" or "passenger" side. Anyway rant over.
Do they mean the driver's side, on this particular item? I need to replace the driver's side assembly. I've already done the passenger side. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Window...dVu2bY&vxp=mtr |

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
Left and Right hand in service manuals etc always means with the driver seated behind the wheel.
It says just that in at least one of the GM service manuals I own. Left and Right hands of the driver does not change no matter what side the steering wheel is on Driver and Passenger side does. There are plenty of rigs with steering wheels on the right hand side driving down the road here in the US. I have a friend that has a Morgan, Triumph, and MG with RHD. Watch the BBC for a bit and pay attention to the driver getting in on the "wrong" side. Driver and passenger side changes depending on where the vehicle is from... more commonly LHD in North America and more commonly RHD in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...t-hand_traffic MG MGA Triumph TR3 Morgan 4/4

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
But then you go to oreillys or autozone or wherever, and ask for something on the front end of the truck, or in the engine bay. They sometimes ask left or right, and they're always referring to when you're facing the front end of the truck as you will be when you are working on it. Different places seem to have different ideas about this. At least that is what I've run into. Its probably the clerks who are just clerks and really aren't familiar with the standard, but hey its something you run into, at least in my experience. I always make them tell me if its driver or passenger side, due to having to take things back plenty of times and exchange it for the opposite side.

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
Industry standard always follows left and right as seen from the driving position of the vehicle, as hatzie stated.

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
If you want to confuse the partsperson more, refer to L & R as the near side and off side. Horse terms much older than our auto terms with very defined meanings.

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
I work in an auto assembly plant, and we refer to the L/S as being the drivers side, as you are sitting in the car & driving.
Now the day when we built Right Side Drive vehicles, well that really messed with the thought process for some people, lol! But it was still the same.

Re: Is this driver or passenger side
It's because they are ignorant in that area and should've received better training.
