Looking for door retainer

I have a 1965 C10 and I need the part that come out of the cab and connects to the door retainer arm so it dose not swing open all the way. Driver side.

What you are looking for is called the door check/holder.

From what I can see it is the same part for both sides. I guess it's just a matter of orientation when you install them. You may be able to find one on ebay that is NOS or one that has been removed from another truck.

I bought that piece thinking that was it and it wasn't. That connects to the door I'm looking for the part that comes out of the cab to the left of the arm and the pin goes through.

Use one from a jeep Cherokee. Bolts right in and helps your doors stay open if you are parked on a hill. http://www.persh.org/pickup/DoorChecks.htm. And they're only a couple bucks at picknpull

Strongly second the recommendation to use Jeep Cherokee door checks. Bolt right in and work well.

What earl84 said. Use the front door checks from a square bodied Jeep Cherokee. Best mod I ever did. You can grab your door & fling it open as hard as you possibly can without worry. It will hold your door open even when on a hill. It's a direct bolt in procedure but you need to use the Jeep metric retaining nuts so make sure you keep them when removing them from the Cherokee.

DO you guys even look at his pics? he is NOT looking for the checks but the connector in the jamb that has been RIPPED OUT...... need one out of 62/63 and maybe weld it in?

Yes,
If you have to go through the trouble of welding the correct bracket in place - if you can find a good used one - you would still have to cut a BIG hole in the kick panel to get in there to weld or bolt in a newer used check then weld up the hole in the kick panel or cover it with a piece of FRP or textured plastic - kind of like the kick panel on say a 69 Impala - If a person is going to go through all that trouble anyway why not get the works from a Jeep Cherokee and be done with it? Heck you can still buy the Cherokee checks brand new for about $58.00 each but I opted for the junkyard ones - I'm cheap. Yes, you would still need that mount from the Cherokee like the one that broke off in his truck in the first place but you would be killing 2 birds with one stone.

You're correct though - I definitely should have made myself more clear on what I was thinking - I'm one of those guys that have a torch, large assortment of Big Hole saws, a TIG welder, MIG welder, angle grinders etc. at home and I'm not afraid to use them. I tend to forget that most people don't have access to all of this. It also doesn't help that at my work I have access to a shear, break, 100 ton press, 2 lathes, 1 milling machine and a shop full of other equipment that I use on almost a daily basis - so for me modifying most anything comes as natural as breathing and I do tend to forget most aren't lucky enough to have all this equipment at their disposal.

What i was referring to is weld one of the early type brackets (as shown by Ron in pic above) to the outside face of the door post ...I say weld as there are NO thread nuts in the post for this type of bracket .......To install the original type would involve cutting a hole in the post as stated by Shortbox

Kinda crazy, Mine actually just broke saturday. I had the Jeep Cherokee straps on it but my piece inside the cab broke off. Idk how Im going to fix it yet..

A little bit off topic, but does anyone know if you can get shorter retainer bars? My doors open too wide and hit the front fender

yes those would be the Jeep door checks that they are talking about ... you doors wont open as far as they do now

this should work. the rubber insulator in your old one has more than likely deteriorated and that lengthens the travel

its a shame that hardly any one is really paying attention to what part you are saying that you need.

someone that is cutting up a rusty or a junk cab can cut a piece out of the pillar and supply you with the part that you need .

I understood what part you meant when I first read it .
but I don't have a junk cab to cut the part out that you need.

anyone on here have a junk cab that can cut a chunk out of the door post
to help him fix his truck ????
