Rearend Identification

Can anyone tell me what rearend this may be and what it would have came out of? I believe it's out of a late 60's 1/2 or 3/4 ton chevy pickup with trailing arms. It has "GM" cast into the housing. It has 6 bolt wheel studs.

Re: Rearend Identification

Looks kinda like a GM Corp 12-Bolt for a Truck.
Six lugs is 1/2 ton.
3.73 is common.

Re: Rearend Identification

There should be a code stamped on it somewhere. I believe it's on top of the axle tube next to the housing. You will probably have to clean the rust off to see it. The code will tell you what gear and if it's poss. traction.
Being a six lug puts it 1970 and back.

Re: Rearend Identification

Thanks for the info. I checked the axle tube and could make out the following digits: HA 1218K

There is also a set of numbers cast into the RH side of the center section housing. That number is: 3896838

On the LH side cast into the center section housing is: GM 2 withouth the bottom leg of the 2
