single pipe flowmaster 44s or single pipe cherrybomb glasspacks

in a month im gonna put a new exhaust on my 71 gmc 307 5.0 truck. not sure which muffler to get. opinions?

I have run both. And I have a pair or really trick Magnflow round mufflers that came off a parts truck. And I don't REALLY recommend any of them.

I spent my money on DynoMax Hemi turbos for my Jimmy and for my '69 short step for when the 427 big block goes in...

I recommend a stock sound level muffler. You won't get a good sound out of single exhaust. If you want to here it, it needs duals to sound right with performance exhaust. You have a 307 and not a 5.0, correct? I recommend 2" pipes. Of the two choices I vote Flowmasters. Don't need to hear all that noise going nowhere. I'd only use a louder exhaust on something that will scoot along on minimal throttle. You don't need to exaggerate how hard a motor is working, but it's cool to hear a truck moving right along with little throttle or when it screams it's gone quick

I agree with special-k on getting the duals if you can. If money is the issue (and when isn't it?) spend less on an expensive muffler and run a second pipe using less expensive mufflers. Glass packs or what we used to call Turbo's are less expensive, and the give you some exhaust rumble which I guess you are after. I used the Turbo style for many years and finally upgraded to Flowmaster 50's.

Great advice from SpecialK. Typically high performance mufflers sound like crap on a stock motor and I think he explains why pretty well. Summit Racing has a house brand turbo muffler that hardly costs anything. Spend less money on the muffler and do get the dual exhaust.

Currently my '69 short step has a 2" dual with CherryBombs that turns down in front of the rear axle. It sounds pretty good (surprisingly!) but it was that way when I got it. Wouldn't spend any money that way.

The old C2500 big block I had I was planning on running dual 2 1/2" into a single 3" RV DynoMax muffler. (36" long!) That's the way I would go if you want to keep single exhaust.

I had a K/20 with a stock 307, 2bbl, headers, dual exhaust (2 1/4?) behind the rear wheels, and turbos. It had 4.57 rears and 37" tires. When out with the boys playing in the mud I'd be asked all the time, "What do you have in there?", meaning it must have sounded pretty good letting her rip. Kinda fun telling them, "307 2bbl"

Here's what I have on my 1970 with 350 engine. They run quiet riding along but will get quite loud when you put your foot into it. You don't have to floor it or anything just give it some gas and they come alive. I'm sure they come in 2 1/4 pipe not sure about 2 inch though.

thanks for all the comments!.... so i have a lmc book and was looking in exhaust and for $140 they have a whole exhaust kit with a turbo muffler or for $130 they have a whole exhaust kit with a glasspack muffler. im just gonna do one of those since they wont break the bank. so now which one of those should i get? i want a rumble sound at idle and for it to growl when i step on it

Have you listened to any clips in the thread that is currently running on hearing trucks purr or the one on who makes the best glass pack? Couldn't be back more than a page or two, if not on this 1st page. What do "I" like? Turbos. And if I wanted louder Id go with chambered mufflers. Ten dollars difference is nil. Heck, $130 for a complete exhaust is so cheap I's buy the cheapest, throw away the glass packs, and use muffler of choice from the entire spectrum of availability
