What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
Sometimes I see a suburban or a truck and it has been painted to look like an old paint job and it looks so cool. Other times I think it just looks fake and cheesy.
Cant make up my mind if it is something I would do to one of my trucks, or just something to look at on other peoples trucks. What does everybody else think about it? Cool Stupid trendy |

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
I do not like it.
30 years ago I had to drive vehicles that had the "patina look" because I couldn't afford better. Now, I want my vehicles painted. Tired of looking like a poor boy.

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
It's got to stop! Now that there are people who are patina-ing (?) new Porsches it has "Jumped the shark". I wouldn't be caught with a clear coated old paint job, let alone a fake. Old paint is just a tell tale of poverty and having been there i don't need anything to remind me of how it sucks. But I'm just some cranky old guy, so what do I know?

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
Not a fan at all. I guess it goes along with the rat rod thing which I also am not a fan of. If there is something truly unique and/or it is preserving a true vintage look sometimes it is ok. But for the most part it just looks like people don't have the money to paint their vehicles. Nothing wrong with that, but it seems silly to do it on purpose.
When I was looking for my Suburban I came across a "patina" burb over and over. It had been clear coated over and had actual, large visible rot holes. Gimmy a break.

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
One of the local kids managed to find a 68 GMC, 9' step V6, oem dark green paint. Finally got to see the truck in the gas station, told him how solid it was and rare. Saw him a few weeks later and the dumb A$$ decided to run a sander all over that beauty and completely ruined the truck

Yep. I was going to use other more descriptive words but these work. Paul

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
I completely respect and love the look of natural patina. Not a big fan of the fake painted patina, or sanded through paint, no matter how nicely it was executed.

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
I am not a fan of the rusted look. There is a guy near me (never met him, do not know him) that has a rat rod/patina look 1948-ish truck and it looks awful but as long as he is happy.

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
In my book, patina is defined as thin original paint, or partially exposed original primer under thin original paint. Not surface rust. I think too many people confuse the two.

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
I like real patina cars and truck and I wouldn't mind having one but you're right, now a lot of people have rusted out car and trucks that they call patina. I constantly see stuff pop up on my local craigslist that are too far gone to save and probably don't have any business on the road that people are asking thousands for because its got "patina".

Re: What does everybody think of the Patina paint jobs?
I guess I'm the only one on here that thinks painted patina can save an otherwise ugly vehicle.
I'd much rather have the "after" patina version than the light gray primer version. Jerome Borris is the best in the business,... This topic has been discussed many times here on this board. Quality paint work is expensive.

Personally I like both or all three if done right. Painted, patina, and feux patina. What i think is crazy is a 10k dollar or more paint job. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
