Oil pressure issue

Hi, I recently purchased a 1975 gmc sierra grande with a 350 motor. When I fired it up I noticed their was an oil leak coming from the oil filter. I just replaced the filter and noticed that the rubber o-ring keeps being pushed off the filter. I took it off and put the o-ring back in the proper spot on the filter but as soon as I started the truck it did the same thing. The oil filter isn't loose. Could their be a problem with the amount of oil pressure entering the filter?

Re: Oil pressure issue

Could the previous filter's gasket be stuck onto the block? Did you look at the filter you took off to see if the rubber was still on the filter? I've heard of this happening- Good luck

Re: Oil pressure issue

try a different spin on adapter that goes in the block for the filter.I had a similar problem and it had a small hair line fracture, could not see it but it would blow out my filter

Re: Oil pressure issue

Note that the torque specifications on those adapters are often in INCH-lbs instead of the more normal ft-lbs. Something I noticed after installing the first one and cracking it by tightening it to the listed number of inch-lbs thinking it was in ft-lbs. Tighten something to 12x spec and it will sometimes break.

Re: Oil pressure issue

I tried changing the adapter and made sure that the old o-ring was off. It almost seems like too much pressure.

Re: Oil pressure issue

Have you got a mechanical oil pressure gauge hooked up to show the pressure.
Could be stuck relief valve in the oil pump.
