Vent window restoration how to thread?
Could someone do a how to thread (or post a link to a previous one) that shows a step by step process to restoring vent windows? I'm sure many people here would be very interested in seeing the process to determine if they want to attempt this themselves. I know I would! Thanks!

Re: Vent window restoration how to thread?
This link is from my old Project Ginger thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=473629&page=5 The rivet tool I purchased was worth the money. Also I never separate the vent window hinge pin. I just remove the entire bracket from the frame and leave the hinge pin in place. (since it shows from the outside) I also just un-rivet the top of the frame to get the rubber out. (I take out as few rivets as possible) Remember the order of the hardware to remove the vent window glass. The long piece of steel in the vise makes a great holding fixture. I did mine by myself,... but a second set of hands would be great.

This video talks about removing the hinge rivet. I do not do this. I like to keep the look of the original rivet. Just take the entire bracket off the frame. (The 2 rivets on the side)

Re: Vent window restoration how to thread?
When you say "hinge rivet", do you mean the one on the outside? My lower pivot on my driver side seized and broke loose, so I was wondering if that is possible to repair.

Re: Vent window restoration how to thread?
There is a cheap kit on eBay for I think $22 that has the rivet tools and rivets. It requires a hammer to crush the rivets but it works and if you are only doing one set of vents you don't have to spend big $ on a tool to crush the rivets. It does take a lot of time and patience. An extra set of hands would be helpful but you can do it by yourself with a bench vise. I have less than $100 in mine and that includes all the seals and felt channels, clear coat for frames, rivets and tools. I did not replace the pivot rivets though as they were still tight.

70stovwbolt. Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to be ordering a rebuild kit soon. When I see the "rivet setter", I recognize it as the tool I used growing up on the farm, to repair broken teeth on our haybine and combine. They aren't hard to find, easy to use, and not to expensive.

The pivot stud on the bottom of the vent window is most often seized. I would replace a broken assembly with a different one. But I'm sure it could be weld repaired.
