Motor mount help-71' Sierra 2500
I have looked through and used the search option but i mostly find threads regarding the 72 mounts as they are different ( i didn't know but i do now)
This website has been real helpful but now i need some advice or a push in the right direction. I need new motor mounts and all the things i've seen online differ a whole lot in price....i've seen some on rock auto for like $8 a pair but i've seen stuff on ebay or another website Manes trucks for about 60 or 70 a piece.....i have a 402. Where can i buy motor mounts that i know will work for my truck? a bunch of places say theirs are compatible yet....all those mounts look different .....thanks fellas.. |

Your correct that '72 mounts are different, they are similar to '73 and up truck and car mounts. Yours have an upper and lower rubber mount. The lower mount I think is the same as the lower mount on a 4spd bellhousing. The upper is unique to big block and sort of has a boxed indentation where is centers itself to the frame engine stands. The pictures on LMC of the mount is accurate

Re: Motor mount help-71' Sierra 2500
Pics of your current motor mounts, or pics of mounts that look like yours would be helpful. I found that Manes had the mounts I needed when I dropped a 396 into a 72 C/10 originally small block truck. I refused to pay the ridiculous prices for the 72 stands and mounts so I opted for small block mounts and bolted them to 71 BBC stands using a large grade-8 washer, works great and clears the headers. Cant go wrong with Manes, his prices are way lower than LMC or Classic Chevy Parts...

If you are looking for the rubber mounts that bolt to the engine, yes you can use small block mounts. As stated above, the rubber mounts that go under the frame stands are the same as the manual trans mounts. I used the ones from my 3-speed when I converted from a 250 to the 402 that now resides there.

Re: Motor mount help-71' Sierra 2500
If they have the centerbolt like a 1970, watch out in that the current repros:
a) Use a metric bolt b) Use too long a bolt that would punch into a water jacket if you crank it down too hard Fortunately the 1970 ones are very specific and yours are likely different, but if they're the same style in general, I worry about anyone in the same situation I was in. It's easy not to know the darned thing is bottomed out against the block.
