Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

Bought a fully loaded 87 Silverado today. Has vacuum guage in far left bottom guage hole. Also has color match floor mat option and the mats are still in truck in nice condition. Factory tow hooks on front with air dam? 2wd truck. The option list in glove box is two full columns.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I am using it for a parts truck. LOL. I am building a K30 and wanted all the options from this truck. It is unmolested and the A/C works. So the truck was worth the $2500. Part out the rest of it.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

That's pretty cheap for up there. I'll bet that vacuum gauge is just as accurate as the temp gauge.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I think they only came in the c60's and c70's. I wonder if someone has swapped the cluster?

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I have seen air pressure gauges in this spot on the C50 and 60 etc trucks. Never a VAC guage.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

Fuelster, the only way to tell if it came factory on the truck is to look at the SPID (factory build sheet) in the glove box. I've seen the VAC gauge in the bigger C40-C60 trucks, but never a C10/C20/C30. I made up a large tach, small fuel gauge under it, and a clock on the left; gauge cluster for my truck. It can be done.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I have both types of tachs. One with the fuel guage in it and another cluster with the fuel guage where the VAC guage is. There are option numbers on the SPID that I cannot find. If I knew what the option number is for VAC guage I could check for that number on the SPID.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I do need a tach harness. The tach I will be using is the tach without the fuel guage in it. I think there is a tach filter also required. I will probably rig up the VAC guage in another cluster with the Tach/Fuel guage and sell it.

Yep I have them too-nobody offers them with a filter which is weird.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I think Keith Seymour would be the best person to ask about this since he was so involved in the production.

I looked at the light duty service manual that Hatzie has for reference. There is no RPO code that I can see that includes a vacuum gauge on the light duty pickups.

Z53 - GAUGE PACKAGE - VOLTMETER, OIL PRESS. AND TEMP

This is the only RPO code listed there that mentions gauges.

This website: http://www.47287chevytrucks.com/pg4.html

Lists the following RPO code:

J81 VACUUM RESERVE TANK GAUGE

You might want to look through your SPID or post it here and see if something matches it to see if it's factory or not. I'd be interested to know what it's even hooked up to.

Just as a for instance...my truck has what looks to be a factory sliding rear window. It's marked PPG and Soft-Ray just like my other windows but my SPID is missing RPO code A28. So I think it was added after the truck was purchased and it is probably original but not original to the truck.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

This truck has the A28 on the spid. And the glass is marked that same as yours. Black frame, tinted glass in it.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

This must be OEM original and not added. The VAC guage is hooked to the intake manifold, thru a valve, thru a y, to a bracket fastened to the firewall into a steel pipe with a grommet in the firewall to the guage. Interesting.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

I don't think that N67 is aluminum wheels.

You guys sure the G80 is posi? I guess I do leave 2 black marks, but not if doing donuts I don't think. Anyways, as everyone has said, that vacuum gauge is a transplant.

Post a picture of the SPID, it's easy.

Re: Vacumm guage 87 Silverado

Vac guage is not a transplant. It is too unmolested and correct to be in my opinion. There are option numbers that I cannot find and it may be one of those. There are strange things that happen. Options on a truck without the code on the spid. This spid is full top to bottom both sides. Maybe there was not enough room and they said F it. LOL Who knows. This truck was never restored and is virgin.
