low buck hood lock

Here is a low buck easy to make hood lock.
I used some flat aluminum stock made some bends drilled two holes and attached them to the striker plate. I used an adjustable shackle pad lock to make it easier to pass thru the drilled hole.
You can remove your coil wire when you park it and then lock the hood and there is your anti theft.
Hope this helps

Re: low buck hood lock

That is great. I have been thinking along the same lines as you except I planned to use some links of chain to help with the alignment of the lock!

Re: low buck hood lock

Awesome mod! I leave the windows up and doors locked and truck in gear on mine Makes it to where they'd have to break the glass to get in or move it. And since the truck is parked a few feet from my bedroom window it wouldn't be very long before I'd be out there. lol

Re: low buck hood lock

It's kind of hard to see but my truck had a similar setup put on it along the way. There are 2 metal tabs, one is on the latch and the other is on the lever, that have a hole in them for a padlock. Seems to be very effective if I were to ever use it.

Re: low buck hood lock

I've got a similar setup on mine, works really well. Wondering if anyone has made something to padlock the E-brake on? That would make it tough to roll away... or tow.

Besides using all of the above, I also use a motion sensing l.e.d floodlight and this little gem. https://www.harborfreight.com/wirele...tem-93068.html

I am thinking of one of the locks Classic Industries sells that goes around the brake arm. It's about $40 and since I will be moving to Tucson in a couple years I want my truck safe. Might even pull the coil wire at night as well.
It's called the Peddle Jack. Part Number UN1001A in the CI catalog.

Re: low buck hood lock

Here's some photos of my setup took about 20 minuets to make. Even used an existing bolt hole in the hood. As for the E-brake after looking it would be easy to do simply drill a hole through the brake handle assembly in the on position but also easy to defeat.. unhook or cut the cable. Maybe if one was to use a security type fastener on the cable attachment then the crooks would be forced to deal with cutting the cable that can be a PITA if you don't have a cutoff saw.. Will continue to look into. Cheers.

I saw a 55 Chevy Bel Air chained to a tree. The car had no windows and it was chained to the b-piller.

Re: low buck hood lock

This truck was stolen from a friend of mine in Lodi, CA last year. Same as rvrfoot, they pushed it away. It was one of the few times he didn't block it in with his daily driver. We never saw hide nor hair of it again. These days you need to use layers of protection. Disconnect the power and lock the hood, use a club and a trailer wheel lock, get an alarm and/or a Lojack, and a motion sensing floodlight, but above all...have a talk with your insurance agent before you have any problems. If you don't have stated value coverage, get a professional written appraisal so you don't get jacked around. (My agent gave me a referral for an appraiser.) Too many of us are unsure about just how well covered we really are until misfortune strikes.
