pictures of my C-10 trailer
Built me a trailer using a 71 Chevy Camper Special Long bed. We built a square tube chasis to get it down low to match my 68 C-10. We narrowed the bed by a foot down the middle in which let us v-shape the front and gave us enough material to finish out the floor. The tailgate was narrowed as well to work as supposed too! It pulls great and works great for hauling an ol' s'cool chopper. As you can tell I am in need of a utility box door and looking to find one. Thanks for letting me share!

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
It's been ages since I saw a truck bed made into a trailer. Yours is very, very impressive.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Once my truck is running and I get 220 volts into my garage, I want to weld myself up a trailer too.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Very cool looking trailer -- like how you modified the front of the bed to make a V.
Years ago I had a truck bed trailer at a camp in NY, worked great and b/c we got it from a junk yard, we never worried about beat it up. |

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Looks really good. Curious as to why you narrowed it.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
I appreciate all the kind words. The chopper you see in the bed is 8 feet and 4 inches long. The stock bed was 8 feet. by narrowing down the bed and v-shaping the front, we gained 18 inches. Now the bed is 9 feet and 6 inches. Now I can haul the bike and a ramp with ease. I love the way my bike is protected to a certain degree from road rash. This also helps a little with the aerodynamics. Great question, and glad to clarify.
If anyone can help me find a box door, it would be greatly appreciated. |

That's cool! I'm curious to see the narrowed tailgate. Did you cut the extra width off each end?

I was thinking the same thing. I hope is still says CHEVROLET as opposed to CHELET.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Thanks for all the interest as it was fun to build. I have since placed 54 chevy hubcaps on it and painted the inside of the toolbox white too see better inside once I mount a door. I am still looking for a door if anyone has one.
I have posted a picture of the tailgate. When we started the tailgate was ate out with rust about 10 to 12 inches up the bottom so the wording was gone. Therefore we took the center section out and put the two end pieces together. Now the cool part we used seat belt latches inside the bed to lock the tailgate shut. One was placed on the inside at the top on both sides. It would have been doubly cool to have had Chevrolet still in it but due to the rust it is gone. I have also heard of people spelling LUVTOREV. I will be adding the tail light trim, tailgate trim and hopefully the side chrome soon. |

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
That is super cool!
Do you have to do anything special for the registration in Tn.? I'm curious because I have heard that they are getting strict on "homemade" trailers here in Texas. They want info like axle manufacturers name, serial numbers, load rating etc...

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Great question and thanks for your interest. I am very fortunate to live in a state that you do not have to register your trailer. I did purchase my axle from Tractor Supply and it is rated at a 1000 pounds. All the parts are new except for the bed and original ford steel rims.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Certainly a cool trailer and a awesome bike....love the old school bikes.
I have been saving a lwb step side frame and bed too build into a trailer too match and drag behind my 67 swb stepper. But the bed may end up on the back of my k 20.

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
What wheels are those on the truck? They look like Vette ZO6 wheels. Very nice!

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Thanks for all of the kind works once again. The axle I purchased takes a ford wheel 5x4.5 so I used OEM mustang steelies. Southern Powder Coating covered them so shiny it is unreal. Here is a shot with the 54 chevy hubcap and now with the spare mounted inside the bed. After much thought, I am going to try to find some nice old side trim instead of buying new. Hope to save a few bucks . I am of the age that growing up it was typical to see trailers made out of truck beds. Are the utility box doors hard to find? Are they that popular? Still in need of a box door. Thanks!!!

Re: pictures of my C-10 trailer
Very nicely done! Unfortunately the tool box door you seek is a very rare animal, they were prone to rust, also pricey if you can find a good one ($200-300 +). I suggest you fab one up. Might be something you could even make some money on seeing how many folks need one.
