Re: Rear End Rebuild
Links are having issues for me, but do you have the axle end bearings and seals?
Have you ever done this before? Got the special tools? Smitty

Re: Rear End Rebuild
New bearings, pinion depth tool, and if you have a crush sleeve, a 2 ton gorilla.

Re: Rear End Rebuild
I'm in the process of a similar rebuild. I was planning on 2 quarts of rear lube. I'm not to that stage yet, however, so I can't verify. It looks like that kit only includes 1 quart?
It's worth buying an extra set of pinion bearings to use as setup bearings (inner definitely, and probably outer as well). Use a die grinder to enlarge the inner bore so they easily come on/off the pinion. When you get the shims the way you like it, then you can install the final bearings. You'll want a 0-1" micrometer for measuring shims and a dial indicator/magnetic base setup to measure gear backlash. Last edited by bsampson; 08-31-2016 at 03:36 PM. Reason: Addition point |
